Principal Product Manager, Play Platform

The Play platform is the gateway to enable all play on the platform - it supports massive scale to enable 45m concurrent players to join games, it determines where to launch game servers across our global data centers, and it decides who you play with through our matchmaking algorithm. It is the central system that determines the quality of gameplay. As one of the most critical systems on our platform, it connects millions of players to each other and to the vast universe of experiences on Roblox—reliably, intelligently, and at scale.
As the Product Leader for the team, you will define and lead the roadmap for how users connect with each other across Roblox and how we manage our global edge capacity to provide the best latency to our players. Your work will shape the algorithms, infrastructure, and creator tools that drive social connection, improve latency and player satisfaction, and enhance long-term engagement. This is a rare opportunity to rethink multiplayer at platform scale, and to build the connective tissue that powers the future of shared creation and play.
You will:
- Own the vision and roadmap spanning infrastructure improvements, reliability and scale improvements, core algorithmic optimization, and creator customization capabilities.
- Scale a mission-critical service that ensures reliable and performant joins for millions of players across a globally distributed infrastructure.
- Empower creators with machine learning based optimizations and insights that help them balance engagement, social interaction, and game design goals
- Drive algorithmic improvements Map user, community, and platform value to traceable metrics and machine learning objectives that optimize for enhancing the play experience by incorporating new signals..
- Collaborate cross-functionally with infrastructure, engine, data science, and creator teams to build systems that are reliable, extensible, and impactful at global scale.
- Translate platform-wide growth goals into concrete matchmaking innovations that compound the effects of both the content and social flywheels on Roblox.
You are:
- Experienced, with 8+ years of product management experience, ideally in large-scale systems, infrastructure, or compute platforms; familiarity with real-time data infrastructure, and work on algorithm recommender systems is a plus.
- Formal degree in a technical field such as: Computer Science, Software Engineering, AL/ML, Statistics, or similar experience.
- Deeply technical, with a strong understanding of distributed systems, algorithms, and data-driven product development; capable of working closely with engineers on architecture and trade-offs.
- Metrics- and impact-driven, you can translate product changes into measurable outcomes like improvements in retention, session quality, and network effects.
- Highly collaborative, with a track record of leading through influence across product, engineering, design, and data teams.
- Self-directed, comfortable operating in ambiguity, and driven by curiosity, creativity, and a desire to scale systems that touch millions.
