Job Description

Position Summary: The primary function of the medical assistant is to assist the physician.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform duties necessary to prepare patients for physician exam including taking HPI.
  • Update patient's medical history in EMR.
  • Determine the patient's reason for the visit.
  • Interview patients to collect an accurate medical history.
  • Enter the above information accurately into the patient's EMR.
  • Maintain clean and well-stocked exam rooms.
  • Assist in TMS Treatments & the monitoring of patients undergoing various psychiatric treatments.
  • Authorize prescription refills as directed by physician/mid-level.
  • Process requisitions for labs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation on encounters into EMR.
  • Provide patient education as needed.
  • Must be organized and able to handle a stressful environment.
  • Must have knowledge and use of operation of standard office equipment including computer.
  • Maintain CPR certification.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
  • Ability to type 55 wpm.
  • Work requires continual attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle and prioritize multiple, completing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality when handling protected patient information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, physicians and the general public.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle and prioritize multiple, completing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.

  • Walking and standing for long periods of time.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Diploma from a medical assistant program.
  • Certification from the AAMA is preferred.
  • Two years of experience working as a medical assistant in a mental and behavioral health environment
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
