Job Description Summary

Performs a wide variety of technical and custodial tasks related to setting up and implementing live events and maintaining five University buildings. Hours for this position are typically 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, with possibility of being as early as 6am and as late as 5pm according to event needs. Infrequent weekend shifts can be assigned as needed, directly based on event agendas.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Creates daily event layout diagrams capturing all setup details from 25live reservations and customer meetings for distribution to staff.
  • Acts as primary live event support contact for four (4) facilities during daytime business hours, demonstrating a culture of customer service.
  • Assists with regular and student staff daily task assignments in conjunction with Operations Manager; provides functional guidance.
  • Will be primary resource for set up, training and operation of technical equipment including specialized lighting, all Audio/Visual and projection, and portable/ house sound systems.
  • Monitors maintenance and repair operations for event spaces; adds functional guidance to cleaning and maintenance of all facilities.
  • Investigates and resolves any problems that arise during event operations; performs moderately complex repairs and communication.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and cleaning of equipment; assists in creation and review of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Assists in disposal of waste/ trash, leaf/snow/ice removal near premises and unnecessary materials.
  • Performs event layouts using technical hardware/software tools of the event industry.

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires six months of training beyond high school in mechanical repair and maintenance and three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require driver's license.
  • May require certificate of specialized training for some positions.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of event setup operations and equipment/ furnishings
  • Experience creating event room layouts with all setup details; ability to be proficient with software such as Visio, Smart Draw or Roomviewer
  • Use of sound & lighting equipment and Audio-Visual projection
  • Proven ability to work with student or volunteer staff
  • Basic floor care and custodial processes for event rooms

Working Conditions

Physical effort usually requires considerable walking, standing, and lifting materials weighing 25 to 50 pounds. Periodic assignments given which entail dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, such as live event Audio/Visual failures in high visibility settings. Some possibility of personal risk due to accidents.
