About the Role: The full-time Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare providers and ensuring the smooth operation of clinical services. This position involves performing a variety of clinical and administrative tasks to facilitate patient care, including preparing patients for examinations, collecting specimens, and managing medical instruments. The Medical Assistant will work closely with other healthcare professionals to deliver compassionate and efficient care to patients. By accurately recording vital signs and assisting with procedures such as phlebotomy, the Medical Assistant contributes to accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Ultimately, this role is essential in maintaining a safe, organized, and patient-centered environment within the social assistance healthcare setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certification or diploma in Medical Assisting
  • Proven experience in phlebotomy and specimen collection
  • Knowledge of medical instruments and sterilization techniques
  • Ability to accurately measure and record vital signs
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with patients and healthcare staff

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a social assistance or community health center setting
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems
  • Basic knowledge of medical billing and coding procedures
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Strong preference: Bilingual abilities (Spanish/English) to support diverse patient populations

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for examination by taking and recording vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
  • Perform phlebotomy and draw blood specimens following proper protocols to ensure patient safety and specimen integrity.
  • Assist healthcare providers during patient examinations and minor procedures.
  • Manage and sterilize medical instruments and equipment to maintain a clean and safe clinical environment.
  • Process and label specimens accurately for laboratory testing and ensure timely delivery to the appropriate departments.
  • Answer phones, schedule patient appointments, and handle administrative tasks to support clinic operations.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with healthcare regulations and privacy standards.

Skills: The required skills such as Medical Assisting, phlebotomy, and specimen processing are essential for performing clinical tasks accurately and safely on a daily basis. Proficiency with medical instruments and sterilization ensures that all equipment is properly maintained to prevent infection and support patient care. Drawing blood and recording vital signs are critical skills used to gather accurate patient data that informs diagnosis and treatment. Effective communication and phone answering skills facilitate smooth patient interactions and clinic workflow. Preferred skills like familiarity with EHR systems and bilingual communication enhance the ability to provide comprehensive and accessible care to a diverse patient population.
