Job Summary

The Sr. Electronics Technician will install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, replace and repair the access and security systems for the UT academic campuses, UT Health Science Center and UT School of Medicine. This role will collaborate with IT to ensure the security access control systems are maintained and operating optimally. There will be moderate exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards. Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions from the cold to extreme heat, as well as in a fluid environment. Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors and loud noises expected.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, replace and repair the access control systems and equipment.
  • Monitor and conduct regular maintenance checks and update access to identify and resolve any potential issues.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of card readers and electronic locks.
  • Implement and program access control software and collaborate with IT, project, and security teams to integrate access control systems.
  • Provide technical review and input for new equipment.
  • Assist Locksmith with rekeying, evaluating, troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and replacing door locks and hardware as needed.
  • Support general facilities' maintenance activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in the Installation, maintenance, repair and operations of electronic security systems.
  • May accept a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Three (3) years of experience in the access/security systems maintenance or related field.
  • Competency Lenel, Traka, Transact, Milestone.

Required Certifications/Licenses

  • Valid Texas driver's license (Not subject to suspension and eligible to drive a motor vehicle owned or leased by the University of Texas System.)
  • Lenel and Milestone certification (acquired within 6 months of hire.)

Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

  • Competent skills using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Comprehension of networking and IT principles as it applies to security systems.
  • Understanding of NFPA life safety codes related to locking arrangements.
  • Knowledge of electronic databases as it pertains to security systems.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, both in person and over the phone.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Capable of adapting to new technologies and software systems quickly.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate activities.
  • Proficiency in managing and reviewing documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and initiative in a dynamic work environment.
  • Capable of reading and comprehending construction drawings.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
