Overall position description with general areas of responsibility:

The primary function of a Décor Fabrication Engineer is to help bridge the gap between Designers, and the in-house Manufacturing Team to help ensure that new products can be realized as envisioned and to create accurate engineering drawings for all necessary décor item components. This role is directly involved in the design and manufacturing of products and is the primary link between 2D design drawings and physical products.

Essential functions of a Décor Fabrication Engineer:

  • Developing graphic designs from internal and external sources into detailed shop drawings that utilize proper materials, appropriate hardware connections, and efficient material yield.
  • Create detailed shop drawings in CorelDraw for décor items, to be used by the following manufacturing departments:
  • Large Format Digital Printing
  • CNC Routing / Laser Cutting
  • Woodworking / Millwork
  • LED Lighting / Wiring
  • Metal Fabrication
  • 3D Printing
  • Work closely with fellow Engineers, Estimators, and Project Managers to develop production ready designs for prototype, proprietary, and roll-out Décor items
  • Develop new R&D initiatives for Client requests, internal developments, and stand-alone products.
  • Implement revisions to existing Décor items for value engineering, clarifications, change in application, or manufacturing improvement reasons.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to be detail-oriented with a strong sensitivity to aesthetics and design intent.
  • Ability to collaborate with Engineering peers, Design, Estimating, Purchasing and Production teams.
  • A compelling interest in manufacturing processes and continuous improvement of build methods and increasing manufacturing efficiency.
  • Ability to demonstrate prioritization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and understand architectural plans and elevations.
  • Knowledge of common materials and build methods used in interior décor and signage manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with woodworking/millwork, CNC routing, metal fabrication, and additive manufacturing
  • Knowledge of graphics production processes

Software/Other Proficiencies:

  • 2D vector graphics software (CorelDraw and/or Adobe Illustrator): 1-2 years
  • 3D modelling software (Rhino3D, Fusion (or similar): 1-2 years
  • Adobe Creative Cloud/Creative Suite: 1-2 years
  • AutoCAD or Similar: 1-2 years
  • Generate take-off quantities, weight calculations, and BOM estimates when necessary

Project Management:

  • Manage daily priorities, notifying supervisor of any changes that will impact critical project dates.
  • Track time daily within time entry database for proper project billing.
  • Maintain and regularly update shop drawings as revisions occur.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure production dates are met while maintaining original design intent.

Site Visits:

  • Possible site visits on local projects before / during construction to take site photos, gather field condition data, and address problem issues as they arise.
  • Coordinate with Installers / General Contractors alongside internal Installation team.

Working conditions:

  • This is an in-office position. Hybrid remote scheduling may be available after the first days.
  • This position may require occasional overtime depending on workload and production deadlines.
  • Appropriate PPE (Safety glasses, closed toed Shoes, etc.) must be worn at all times when working with team members on the shop floor.
