Infrastructure & Platform Engineer - Experienced (3–5 Years)

As an Infrastructure & Platform Engineer at Vorticity, you'll design and maintain the core systems that power scientific computing at scale. You'll build APIs and data services that connect researchers to our high-performance backend, manage distributed workloads, and ensure the platform's reliability and scalability.
This role is ideal for engineers who love working close to the metal while building developer-friendly interfaces and tools. You'll help bridge scientific software and modern infrastructure — enabling Vorticity's mission to radically accelerate human discovery.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend APIs powering our scientific computation platform.
- Architect and manage the infrastructure that supports large-scale compute clusters and distributed workflows.
- Build automation tools for provisioning, monitoring, and managing cloud and on-prem compute resources.
- Implement observability systems (logging, metrics, tracing) for distributed services.
- Manage data pipelines and services integrating large, multi-format scientific datasets.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience in software engineering, infrastructure, or DevOps roles.
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience designing and maintaining REST or gRPC APIs.
- Strong foundation in backend development, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (AWS or GCP).
- Understanding of system monitoring, alerting, and observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana).
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, ArgoCD).
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, HTTP, load balancing, security).
Preferred Skills
- Passion for scientific computing, high-performance systems, and engineering excellence.
- Familiarity with HPC, GPU computing, or scientific simulation systems.
- Experience with cloud networking, VPC management, and hybrid infrastructure.
- Familiarity with container orchestration across heterogeneous compute (CPU/GPU/FPGA).
- Experience with on-premise infrastructure.
- Experience with performance profiling and debugging at the system level.
