Overview:

Alera Group is looking for a part-time Compensation Consultant to work with us on client projects. This position has the freedom to work remotely in the United States. Must be available during regular business hours.

Alera Compensation (formerly Compensation Works) is seeking experienced compensation consultants to join our team on a part-time basis. Our consultants support clients across diverse industries with market pricing, pay structure development, sales compensation, executive pay design, and total rewards strategy. This is an opportunity to do meaningful work with flexibility, working remotely with a collaborative team.

Responsibilities:

As a Compensation Consultant, you'll partner with clients and internal teams to design, evaluate, and implement compensation strategies that align with organizational goals, promote equity, and ensure compliance. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting market benchmarking, pay equity analyses, and financial modeling to assess competitiveness and identify gaps.
  • Designing base pay structures, incentive plans (broad-based, sales, executive), and total rewards programs.
  • Creating tools and guidelines for pay administration using Excel, Power BI, or similar tools.
  • Supporting job architecture development, including job families and descriptions.
  • Delivering client-ready materials, leading virtual meetings, and advising on best practices, trends, and compliance updates.
  • Collaborating with internal teams to meet project milestones and ensure high-quality deliverables.

Please note: Work hours from August through December may be more demanding due to the annual compensation cycle across our clients' organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in compensation consulting, with expertise in designing and managing base pay and incentive programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, HR, Economics, or a related quantitative field (experience may substitute for education).
  • Proficient in analyzing salary surveys and applying regulatory guidelines to compensation programs.
  • Advanced Excel skills (v-lookups, pivot tables, charts/graphs); strong analytical and data modeling capabilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with proven ability to interpret data and make informed recommendations.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills; thrives in both independent and team-based virtual work.
  • Experience with compensation software (e.g., PayFactors, , Market Pay), relational databases, and large data sets.
  • Preferred: Professional certification (PHR, CCP) and background in consulting or project management.

Additional Information:

This job is fully remote. The weekly hours will vary based on project work. Must be available during regular business hours. At this time, we are seeking candidates in the PST or MST time zones to serve our West Coast clients best.

We offer a competitive hourly range of $45-$65/hr, depending on experience.
