A New Leaf is seeking a compassionate and resilient Shelter Advocate to provide direct support to individuals and families escaping domestic violence. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and supportive environment for shelter residents, offering crisis intervention, assisting with basic needs, connecting clients to community resources, and empowering them on their journey toward independence. Hourly Pay Rate: $18
Schedule: Saturday-Sunday 12pm-10pm
Location: Glendale, AZ
 
*Required to complete our "New Hire Orientation" held on the first work week of employment, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm; subject to change upon completion of orientation requirements which may grant early release of orientation before Friday; orientation not offered evenings or weekends.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:

High School or GED required Associate or Bachelor's Degree, preferred

Experience:



Experience working with domestic violence, homeless or economically disadvantaged population, preferred. Knowledge of and/or experience with trauma informed practices required. Knowledge of community resources. Verbally bilingual in Spanish, preferred

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Role model appropriate behaviors to callers on the hotline and clients in the shelter, at all times, utilizing trauma informed principles and practices.
  • Answer crisis hotline calls, properly process, and document calls according to procedure.
  • Provide crisis intervention, domestic violence information, and resources and referral services to callers on the crisis hotline and to clients at the shelter.
  • Communicate with hotel/motel and/or transportation agencies for client placement in overflow program and convey information appropriately to internal programs.
  • Perform screenings, lethality assessments, and basic needs assessments for potential clients according to procedure. Assist with the introduction of program and facility orientation to incoming clients. Assist with client intake/exit paperwork as needed.
  • Provide supportive services to clients in shelter and assist case managers with client needs. 
  • Establish/maintain client files, documentation and requesting paperwork; filing all documentation in a timely, accurate and thorough manner.   
  • Be responsible for issues relating to admission and discharge, in conjunction with the programs definition and policies as relevant to program/client needs.
  • Access community resources to support the coordination of services for clients.
  • Participate in required supervision on a regular basis as required by A New Leaf policy.

Valid Driver's License with reliable transportation, required Current Auto Liability Insurance, required 39 Month Motor Vehicle Record, required Be at least 21-years of Age Must be able to obtain Class One Fingerprint Clearance Card immediately upon hire (if there are any uncertainties whether an applicant may have to go through an appeal process; they are encouraged to complete that process prior to applying as an invalid card will result in termination of employment)
