POSITION SUMMARYThe Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of swimming pools at assigned locations. This role provides leadership and direction to the aquatics team, develops staff schedules, and ensures compliance with safety and operational standards to deliver a positive and secure experience for all participants.This position is located at the Lockport Family Y.GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:Morning, afternoon and evening positions are available. 12 to 25 hours per week. Safety Enforcement and Emergency Response:Enforce all pool safety rules and implement emergency procedures.Monitor swimmer safety, providing immediate responses to emergencies in accordance with YMCA policies.Complete and submit all required incident/accident reports.2. Operational Oversight:Monitor daily pool operations to ensure compliance with state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.Record and maintain accurate pool temperature, chemical quality, and safety inspection logs.Take appropriate action to address operational issues promptly.3. Staff Management:Develop and publish the staff schedule, ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts.Provide leadership, direction, and support to aquatics staff.Fill in for absences as needed and promotes a positive, team-oriented work environment.4. Program Delivery:Instruct participants in swim classes, implementing YMCA of the USA and YMCA Buffalo Niagara swim instruction programs.5. Leadership and Professionalism:Maintain active surveillance of the pool area and addresses challenges calmly and effectively.Model professionalism and serve as a role model for the aquatics team.6. Equipment and Maintenance:Conduct routine equipment checks to ensure proper functioning and availability of necessary tools.Oversee the cleanliness and organization of program/work areas and enforce cleaning protocols, including the use of PPE.6. Training and Certification:Maintain all required certifications and ensure team compliance with certification requirements.Facilitate and attend staff training sessions to enhance skills and learn program standards.7. Additional Responsibilities:Perform other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS1. Minimum Age: Must be at least 18 years old2. Certifications:Current Lifeguard certification through American Red Cross or YMCA.CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certifications. (American Red Cross, HSI, and American Heart Association certifications are accepted.)YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or Lifeguard Supervisor certification required within 90 days.3. Physical and Mental Readiness: Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness at all times.4. Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team.5. Technical Proficiency: Competency with Microsoft Office software for scheduling and administrative tasks.
