is seeking a
Principal SQL Developer
to provide technical leadership and expertise in the design, development, and optimization of enterprise-level database solutions. This role will be key in architecting scalable, reliable, and high-performance data systems that support mission-critical applications and analytics for one of our public sector clients.

    Up to $100.00/hr | W2 available at a reduced rate
  • Contract Length:
    24+ months

About the Role

The Principal SQL Developer will lead the design and implementation of advanced database architectures and data strategies. This individual will play a vital role in building and optimizing robust data systems, mentoring developers, and collaborating with senior stakeholders to deliver high-impact technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable database architectures (relational and NoSQL), including schema design, indexing, and data modeling.
  • Optimize database performance through query tuning, stored procedure refinement, and configuration management.
  • Architect and maintain ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines to integrate multiple data sources efficiently.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level developers.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and analysts to align data initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Establish and enforce database security, backup, and recovery standards to ensure compliance with industry regulations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues to maintain high availability and performance.
  • Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for database systems, processes, and standards.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (Master's preferred)

  • Experience:

  • 6–10 years leading
    large-scale technology projects
    or
    services
  • 8+ years of experience with
    SQL, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Python
    , and
    DAX
  • Deep expertise with one or more major
    DBMS platforms
    (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and advanced T-SQL/PL-SQL programming
  • Strong background in
    database architecture
    ,
    performance optimization
    , and
    ETL design
  • Experience with
    data modeling
    (dimensional, star/snowflake), cloud data platforms (AWS RDS, Azure SQL), and high-availability solutions (clustering, replication)
  • Proven ability to deliver enterprise data and analytics solutions in complex environments

  • Experience in the
    healthcare
    or
    public sector
    domain is a plus

  • Certifications:

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (or equivalent) preferred
  • Experience with Big Data technologies (Spark, Hadoop) and DevOps practices is a plus
