Principal SQL Developer
to provide technical leadership and expertise in the design, development, and optimization of enterprise-level database solutions. This role will be key in architecting scalable, reliable, and high-performance data systems that support mission-critical applications and analytics for one of our public sector clients.

About the Role
The Principal SQL Developer will lead the design and implementation of advanced database architectures and data strategies. This individual will play a vital role in building and optimizing robust data systems, mentoring developers, and collaborating with senior stakeholders to deliver high-impact technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable database architectures (relational and NoSQL), including schema design, indexing, and data modeling.
- Optimize database performance through query tuning, stored procedure refinement, and configuration management.
- Architect and maintain ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines to integrate multiple data sources efficiently.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level developers.
- Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and analysts to align data initiatives with organizational goals.
- Establish and enforce database security, backup, and recovery standards to ensure compliance with industry regulations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues to maintain high availability and performance.
- Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for database systems, processes, and standards.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (Master's preferred)Experience:
- 6–10 years leading
large-scale technology projects
or
services - 8+ years of experience with
SQL, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Python
, and
DAX - Deep expertise with one or more major
DBMS platforms
(e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and advanced T-SQL/PL-SQL programming - Strong background in
database architecture
,
performance optimization
, and
ETL design - Experience with
data modeling
(dimensional, star/snowflake), cloud data platforms (AWS RDS, Azure SQL), and high-availability solutions (clustering, replication) - Proven ability to deliver enterprise data and analytics solutions in complex environments
Experience in the
healthcare
or
public sector
domain is a plusCertifications:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (or equivalent) preferred
- Experience with Big Data technologies (Spark, Hadoop) and DevOps practices is a plus
