Columbus, Ohio, United States Firefly Agency Full time $60,000 - $90,000 per year

The Opportunity

Firefly Agency — a fast-growing, tech-driven insurance network — is looking for a tech-minded problem solver to join our Operations team as an Automation & Data Specialist.

In this role, you'll help maintain and improve the systems and workflows that keep Firefly running efficiently. You'll work directly with our Director of Operations to manage, troubleshoot, and enhance our automation-assisted processes — and use your technical skills to make them faster, smarter, and more reliable.

You'll work across a wide range of automation and data projects — maintaining and improving existing workflows while also creating new solutions that make our systems faster, smarter, and more reliable.

You'll also lead a key company initiative: our Quarterly Profitability Reports (Loss Ratio Tracking) — a project that measures the performance and profitability of our agents and carrier partners.

If you love creating data-driven solutions, streamlining workflows, and using technology to solve real-world problems, this is your chance to make a meaningful impact.

This is a work-from-home position. Our team operates fully remote but stays connected through daily collaboration and quarterly in-person gatherings in Columbus, Ohio.

Because of those meetings, we're seeking candidates who live in one of these states:

Ohio
• Illinois
• Indiana
• Kentucky
• Michigan
• North Carolina
• Pennsylvania
• Tennessee
• West Virginia

What You'll Do

Automation & Workflow Responsibilities:

  • Build, maintain, and troubleshoot automation-assisted workflows using Power Automate, Power Apps, and Azure Data Factory.

  • Create and improve cross-departmental workflows for insurance-agent

    onboarding, licensing, offboarding,

    and document routing.

  • Monitor automation performance, troubleshoot errors, and identify opportunities to streamline processes.

  • Collaborate with departments across Firefly to design and implement solutions that improve efficiency and accuracy.

Data & Reporting Responsibilities:

  • Lead Firefly's Quarterly Profitability Reports (Loss Ratio Tracking) — standardizing carrier data, matching it to policy and agent records, auditing data quality, and generating reports in Power BI.

  • Maintain, update, and improve Power BI dashboards that help Firefly measure agent and carrier performance.

  • Manage data pipelines between EZLynx, SQL, and Power BI to ensure data integrity and consistency.

  • Work with complex Excel formulas, Power Query, and SQL queries to prepare and analyze data.

  • Ensure Firefly's data remains

accurate, up-to-date, and ready for decision-making.

System Administration Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a software administrator, managing user access, permissions, and basic report configurations.

  • Set up and maintain

user accounts on insurance carrier websites.

  • Track and manage software licenses and user subscriptions across the organization.

About Firefly

Firefly is an insurance agency network with more than 200 branches nationwide. We help independent agents grow their businesses by giving them access to top-rated carriers, advanced technology, and support systems that make their work easier and more rewarding.

We're a process-driven organization that uses technology and automation-assisted workflows to deliver consistent, high-quality results for both our team and our agents.

Our culture is built on four values: Transparency, Doing What's Right, Teamwork, and Empathy. We live these values daily as we work with each other and with our agents. Firefly's team is professional, fast-growing, and technology-driven — but also fun and people-focused.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who loves using technology to make work simpler, faster, and more consistent. You're a good fit if you're curious about how systems connect, are eager to learn, and take pride in creating reliable, efficient solutions.

We value people who are organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with data. You don't need to be an insurance expert — we'll teach you what you need to know. What matters most is your comfort with digital tools and your drive to improve the way things work.

Must Haves:

  • Advanced

Excel proficiency, using formulas and Power Query to pull and transform data from SQL databases.

  • Familiarity with SQL database management — able to understand, organize, and work with stored data.

  • Experience or interest in automation tools such as Power Automate, Power Apps, or Azure Data Factory.

  • Background in computer science, data operations, or process automation.

  • High comfort level with data and digital platforms, and the creativity to use them to solve real problems.

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and reliable with numbers.

  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with both technical and non-technical teammates.

Nice to Have

(We'll Teach You the Insurance Side):

  • Familiarity with creating and maintaining Power BI dashboards to visualize and share business data effectively.

  • Experience connecting to and managing data from APIs, data lakes, and other cloud storage platforms.

At Firefly, you'll have the chance to learn the insurance side of the business while applying your technical skills to help our team work smarter. If you enjoy collaborating, learning from others, and improving processes that make a real impact, you'll feel right at home here.

Why You'll Love Working at Firefly

  • A stable, established company

that's been growing for 20 years.

  • Opportunities to modernize and automate key business processes.

  • A remote, tech-enabled environment with a supportive, collaborative culture.

  • Quarterly team gatherings in Columbus, Ohio for connection and planning.

Benefits:

  • 15 days (120 hrs.) PTO available upon hire date

  • 401(k) with Employer match up to 4%, available immediately

  • Health/Dental/Vision Insurance

  • Short-Term Disability, AD&D and Life Insurance

  • Paid Maternity leave

  • Paid Parental Leave
