Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking a Test Engineer to support our work as a prime contractor on a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system. Accuracy, integrity, subject matter expertise, and the ability to work well independently and with others are important traits we expect the successful candidate to possess and demonstrate.
This position is responsible for:
- Supporting the develop of test requirements, test plans, test procedures, and evaluation techniques to support system integration and requirements verification
- Understanding interface design documents and deriving test tolerances and test methodologies
- Performing analysis of mechanical measurement data while applying GD&T methodology
- Preparing test analysis reports to communicate results and address non-conformances
- Reviewing non-conformances to provide system level impact response
- Maintaining documentation to support requirements traceability and verification
- Working collaboratively in a team setting with other engineering team members
Our organization has supported the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) continually since the program's inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and is the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nation's nuclear arsenal its importance to maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of Columbia, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. The Navy projects this system to be operational through 2084, meaning the program will have a total life span of more than 120 years. This is a unique program and BAE Systems employees on this program understand they are part of an important legacy.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Typical education and related/relevant work experience required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering, or other related science, engineering or technical degree and at least four years of related/relevant work experience OR at least eight years of SSBN SWS experience in lieu of a degree.
Additional skills/experience required:
- Ability to work and communicate well with management, customers, and their contractors – including ability to provide clear and concise presentation/demonstration of advanced technical concepts
- Demonstrated time management and organizational skills with the ability to interpret and follow requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Excellent interpersonal skills used when interfacing, coordinating, and negotiating with colleagues, and customers
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment and make sound decisions while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- 2 – 4 years of relevant professional experience
- Active DoD SECRET security clearance
- Current D-5 TRIDENT SWS Technical / Operational Knowledge
- SSBN Missile Technician or Navigation Electronics Technical with TRIDENT II SWS/SWSSS deployed experience
- Working knowledge of the Navy Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) organization
- Experience working within the SSP Test Program
- Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) or Digital Engineering (DE) experience
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM/3D Modeling
- Experience with GD&T
- Experience performing analysis with metrology software
- Experience with requirements documentation and verification testing
Full-Time Salary Range: $ $108210
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
