Materials Engineer - Weathering
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently looking for an Automotive Materials Weathering Engineer at our Proving Grounds in California City, CA
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Evaluate the material weathering resistance performance of Hyundai and Kia prototype and production vehicles and components
- Develop, plan, and execute material weathering projects that support the development of advanced material systems for polymers, fabrics, and coatings
- Conduct experimental investigations to understand and improve material weathering processes and analysis techniques in support of vehicle durability and performance
- Analyze spectral and thermal data and support development of new measurement techniques
- Organize and analyze tested material property data, providing associated testing reports for requesting teams
- Coordinate with other engineering and technician staff to perform material weathering evaluations
- Conduct benchmarking of competitive vehicle component materials
- Support the specification and maintenance of specialized testing equipment and data logging systems
- Support team management with the development of budget and equipment planning for the Weathering Station
- Travel up to 10% domestically/internationally
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry, Paint/Coating, Plastic Technology, or Polymer Science; Other degrees may be considered based on relevant experience
- 5 years of materials testing and/or development experience, preferably in automotive
- Knowledge of spectral and thermal degradation of materials is highly desirable
- Hands-on experience in PLC programming, data systems, controller components is highly desirable

Compensation
