Job Description
Associate Director, Scholarship
The mission of the scholarships team is to administer the university's scholarship programs, collaborate with other college granting offices, and facilitate off-campus awards. The associate director is responsible to maintain a student-first focus, align scholarship programs with institutional objectives, ensure compliance with donor stipulations and federal, state, NCAA, and university rules, regulations, and policies. This individual assesses needs and opportunities; advocates for students; exercises professional judgment; leads a team of scholarship administrators, staff, and student-employees; establishes a comprehensive scholarship vision and budget; develops a strategic technology plan to ensure timely and accurate processing of awards; assists with donor and other outreach efforts; oversees scholarship-related content and communication; and evaluates program outcomes and team and system performance. The associate director reports to the director and assists with strategic planning, employee professional development, and general office management.
What you'll do in this position:
- Scholarship administration and resource management
- Creates and follows an annual plan and budget for awarding university scholarships ($25M+)
- Collaborates with colleges and departments to award and manage their scholarships
- Designs means to receive and disburse off-campus scholarships in a timely way
- Oversees return of unclaimed off-campus scholarship funds to third-party agencies
- Creates compliance plan for federal, state, NCAA, university, and donor rules, regulations, policies, and stipulations
- Designs a communication plan for scholarships
- Meets with students, parents, donors, and other campus administrators, including escalated incidents
Organizes meaningful events and outstanding experiences for scholarship recipients and donors
Team management and employee professional development
- Trains, motivates, and leads team of scholarship staff, and student employees
- Distributes work assignments to ensure reasonable loads and balance
- Ensures operational redundancy and continuity
- Assists team members in developing worthwhile professional development plans
Provide course correction for team members as needed
Evaluation, strategic planning, and reporting
- Evaluates scholarship management system performance
- Creates a strategic technology plan to ensure continuity of processing
- Evaluates scholarship program outcomes
- Evaluates team performance
- Conducts task and need analyses to streamline and improve processes
- Identifies opportunities and possibilities for scholarships to better serve students and achieve university objectives
- Assists with comprehensive strategic planning involving scholarships and Title IV funds
- Engages and collaborates with other campus stakeholders and gatekeepers
- Develops proposals for policy and program improvements
- Oversees new program design, development, and deployment
Reports findings
Other projects and duties as assigned
- Serves on office, division, and university committees, as assigned
- Completes other projects as assigned by the director
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- Minimum education, bachelor's degree
- Minimum 2 years of full-time work experience in higher education
Preferred
- Master's degree
- 5 years of work experience in higher education; prior work experience in financial aid; prior experience in a professional leadership position
- Program development, research, and analysis

Pay Grade:54
Typical Starting Pay: $79,500 - $103,500
