A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SOUS CHEF

As our Sous Chef, you will be responsible for preparing the highest-quality food and overseeing the kitchen's daily operations to ensure the kitchen runs at peak efficiency and maintains overall standards consistent with that of Bean Restaurant Group. The ideal candidate for this position enjoys taking a hands-on approach to kitchen management and will have experience as a Sous Chef. We are looking for an innovative and passionate team member who has strong communication skills, a commitment to quality and a keen interest in culinary techniques.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Train and develop kitchen staff; train cooks/kitchen staff in the importance of consistency in preparation and presentation.

  • Ensure that level of quality, portion control, and plate presentation is adhered to consistently.

  • Monitor and maintain line plating and quality.

  • Prepare a variety of cuisine utilizing skill and creativity.

  • Coordinate with wait staff to ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded.

  • Assist with inventory management, maintaining information in computer databases and other standardized reports as needed.

  • Reviewing staffing levels to meet service, operational, and financial objectives.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen; ensure all sanitation procedures are being followed; ensure adherence to all health and safety regulations and procedures.

  • Skillfully utilizes hand tools or machines required, reads recipes, measures, cuts, and otherwise works on materials with great precision.

  • Establish procedures, prepares and coordinates schedules, and expedites workflow.

  • Assist the Executive Chef/Chef and other management with hiring, training, motivating, disciplining and rewarding kitchen staff.

  • Performing administrative tasks, taking stock of food and equipment supplies, and doing purchase orders.

  • Ensure all necessary reports and forms are completed daily.

  • Possess and maintain through understanding of industry and stays abreast of industry trends; communicate/incorporate information to assure kitchen remains current.

  • Run the kitchen on the Executive Chef/Chef's day off. May perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Chef/Chef or other management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for food

  • A team player with a hospitality first mentality and a keen willingness to learn

  • Positive attitude and excellent communication skills

  • Ability to stand, walk and lift heavy items for extended periods of time

  • Two years experience preferred, but we will train the right restaurant candidate who shows a willingness to learn in a collaborative environment

WORK SCHEDULE

  • hours per week. This position includes day and evening shifts and weekend shifts.
