Job Title: Program Director – After-School Program

Location: The Renaissance Charter School, Jackson Heights, NY

Student Population: 108 students (Grades 6–8) | DYCD

Position Summary:

82nd Street Academics is seeking a full-time Program Director to lead our after-school program at The Renaissance Charter School. The program serves 108 students from grades 6 through 8, offering rigorous academic support, dynamic enrichment activities, and strong family and community engagement. The Program Director will oversee all aspects of program design and implementation, staff supervision, partnership cultivation, and compliance with city and state regulations. This is a full-time, in-person role from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with opportunities for virtual work when schools are not in session. Regular participation in senior leadership meetings and professional development is required.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Leadership & Staff Development
  • Build and lead a high-performing team of approximately 15 staff members, including instructors and coaches.
  • Conduct regular informal classroom visits and quarterly staff performance evaluations.
  • Review lesson plans two weeks in advance to ensure alignment with DYCD curriculum, student engagement goals, and supply needs.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative culture that promotes student growth and staff accountability.

Curriculum & Student Achievement

  • Collaborate with school leadership and community partners to design and implement engaging, student-centered curriculum.
  • Ensure homework support is effective, completed accurately, and contributes to students performing in the top third of their class.
  • Promote a college-going culture through exploration activities and exposure to post-secondary pathways.

Stakeholder & Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with parents, school administrators, community leaders, and local businesses.
  • Serve as the program's liaison with the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), and the Department of Education (DOE).
  • Respond promptly and professionally to concerns raised by families or stakeholders.
  • Represent the program at community events, meetings, and conferences.

Compliance, Data & Evaluation

  • Ensure strict adherence to all regulatory requirements from DYCD, DOH, and DOE.
  • Host and respond to compliance inspections and site visits.
  • Monitor attendance and safety protocols to ensure a secure, engaging environment for all students.
  • Collect and analyze program data to evaluate success and guide continuous improvement.

Administrative & Operational Oversight

  • Oversee the daily operations of the program, including scheduling, supply management, and logistics.
  • Prepare and manage program budgets, and support efforts to secure funding through grants and donations.
  • Ensure that all team members meet high standards for punctuality, professionalism, and alignment with 82nd Street Academics' values.
Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in education, youth development, or a related field (required)
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role, preferably within education or youth programming
  • Experience working with middle school student populations in a structured, professional setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development, learning theory, and student engagement strategies
  • Experience with DYCD compliance or similar public contract oversight
