Controller

Company Overview

Pacific States Petroleum, Inc. (PSPI) is not just a company—we're a team of employee-owners committed to excellence in on-site fueling. Since 2001, we've grown from a single truck into an industry leader across California and Nevada, all by putting our people and our customers first. As a 100% employee-owned company, every single team member is a true partner in our success. We're looking for a dedicated and experienced Controller to join our leadership team and drive our continued growth and prosperity.

Your Role and Impact

As our Controller, you will be the financial leader of the company, a key member of the management team, and a strategic partner in our success. You won't just oversee day-to-day accounting; you'll play a critical role in shaping our financial future, strengthening our internal controls, and ensuring we operate with the highest level of integrity. This is a hands-on leadership position for a professional who is ready to have a direct impact on the success of an employee-owned business.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Strategy:

  • Manage and lead a team of 20 accounting professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and professional growth.
  • Prepare and publish timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the management team.
  • Research and provide annual financial projections and forecasts to guide strategic business decisions.
  • Identify and implement new financial systems and processes to increase efficiency and productivity across the Accounting Department.

Fiscal Integrity & Compliance:

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust internal financial controls and procedures to safeguard company assets.
  • Oversee all accounting operations, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of all financial accounts and compliance with all local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings.

Stakeholder Partnership:

  • Coordinate and support all external audits, including those for the business financials, 401(k), and our ESOP.
  • Serve as a key liaison with our banking institutions, managing loans and other financial priorities.
  • Oversee company credit card programs and the expense reimbursement process, ensuring compliance and timely reconciliation.
What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or CMA designation is highly preferred.
  • At least 5+ years of proven experience as a Controller or in a similar senior-level accounting role.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures (GAAP).
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team and fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.
Why PSPI is the Right Place for You

The Power of Ownership: As a 100% employee-owned company, we're not just offering a job—we're offering a stake in our collective success. Our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) is a powerful retirement benefit that gives you a direct ownership interest in the company, creating a unique culture of partnership and shared prosperity.

In addition, we offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your life and career:

  • Competitive Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Company-Paid Life Insurance
  • 401(k) with Company Contributions
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) with Company Contributions
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) and Paid Holidays
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

If you're ready to be a financial leader in a company where your work directly contributes to your own success and the success of your colleagues, we encourage you to apply today.

Direct applicants only. We do not accept unsolicited resumes from third-party recruiters, staffing agencies, or search firms. Any unsolicited resumes, including those submitted to hiring managers or our general careers email, will be considered the property of Pacific States Petroleum Inc.
