Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten Teacher

Job Description

Principal Function:

Directly responsible for supervising the daily program for children ages 3 to 4 years of age.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Planning and conducting a balanced, developmentally appropriate program of educational activities as directed by the child development center director.

  2. Supervising children in a manner which maximizes their educational experiences and ensures proper discipline and safety. Attending to their emergency needs (e.g., basic first aid, illness, etc.)

  3. Preparing and securing classroom materials to implement a daily plan. Utilizing materials check-out system. Returning unconsumed materials as appropriate. Submitting all classroom supply requests in the appropriate manner and time. Sanitizing toys, cots, tables, and chairs at least once a week.

  4. Maintaining classroom materials and equipment in a safe condition and manner which facilitates use by other programs.

  5. Notifying the director, office assistant, or lead teacher as soon as possible of planned and unexpected absences.

  6. Participating in special events of the school (e.g., Open House,

Christmas Program, etc.)

  1. Ensuring that each child feels welcome and secure, including: a. Orienting each new child to the classroom expectations b. Greeting each child upon arrival each day and acknowledging his/her departure at the end of the day.

  2. Sharing information, supplies, equipment, schedules, etc., appropriately with other staff members.

  3. Completing Daily Report of child's activities for parents.

  4. Notifying front office when it is necessary to call parent and/or guardian of an ill or injured child.

  5. Completing accident report (duplicate) when child receives any injury more significant than a simple scrape/abrasion.

  6. Conducting parent-teacher conferences at least semi-annually

  7. Participating in staff meeting and staff development activities.

  8. Clock in and out at the scheduled time.

  9. Adhering to all applicable Union Hill Child Development Center policies and Director's instructions.

  10. Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school education or GED.
  • At least 19 years old.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of child development at the appropriate level: o Relate sensitively to people of all ages and varied backgrounds, o Assess needs and progress of children, o Conduct an appropriate program for preschool children o Communicate effectively with parents, children, director, and co-workers.
  • Ability to use supervision constructively and to work as a member of a staff team.
  • Interest in upgrading professional qualifications by participation in staff development programs.
  • Must be able to see and hear children
  • Must be able to pick up a child of 45 lbs. and climb to the top of the playground climber.
  • Beliefs compatible with those of the Union Hill Primitive Baptist
