Staff Accountant

through housing, education, counseling, and advocacy. Guided by a vision to end family homelessness and break the cycle of poverty, they seek a detail-focused Staff Accountant to provide immediate, full-cycle Accounts Receivable support during a team member's leave.
In this high-impact role, you'll manage billing and reporting for 34 active government grants, ensuring accuracy and compliance while supporting the Controller with GL operations and month-end close. Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle Accounts Receivable for assigned government grants (approx. 34 contracts).
- Generate, review, and submit accurate invoices to county, state, and federal funding agencies.
- Run GL reports from the accounting system and update templates with current financial data.
- Ensure all billed amounts are supported by appropriate backup documentation (receipts, timecards, expense reports, etc.).
- Reconcile monthly activity to the general ledger and supporting schedules.
- Communicate with program managers and directors to confirm allowable costs, allocations, and program-specific billing details.
- Assist with month-end close support related to receivables and deferred revenue.
- Maintain organized digital files of supporting documents (scanning, copying, and uploading materials).
- Provide administrative accounting support as needed to maintain accurate and timely reporting.
- Work collaboratively with the Controller and the Accounts Receivable Accountant to ensure smooth workflow coverage during the leave period.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- Minimum of 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment
- Solid understanding of full-cycle Accounts Receivable and cost-reimbursement grant billing
- Experience with government contracts and compliance reporting highly preferred
- Working knowledge of ERP systems (Sage Intacct a plus)
- Proficient in Excel (formulas; pivot tables and VLOOKUPs a plus)
- Detail-oriented, organized, and results-driven—able to manage high-volume, deadline-driven work with accuracy
- Strong communication and customer service skills with both internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams
- On-site, full-time (5 days/week) commitment required through January 2026, with possible extension through March 2026
