Job Description:

We are looking for qualified candidates to work independently in a molecular PCR laboratory setting performing COVID-19, respiratory pathogen and urinary tract infection panels on the Bio-Rad CFX-96 platform. Prior experience in a molecular PCR or similar laboratory is required.

Job Duties:

  • Under the direction of the Lab Technical Supervisor, the PCR Technologist will perform biological experiments and assist with the day-to-day administration of the PCR Laboratory.
  • Knowledgeable in the handling of patient specimens from accession to storage.
  • Assist supervisor with day to day administration of PCR Laboratory.
  • Read and follow technical procedures for the Standard Operating Procedure Manual.
  • Performs complex molecular diagnostic RNA/DNA based tests in a high complexity laboratory.
  • DNA and RNA extraction.
  • Handle clinical samples and interface with the laboratory information management system (LIMS).
  • Complete PCR testing and PCR product analysis including sequencing, hybridization or fragment analysis.
  • Participate in Proficiency Testing programs.
  • Assist in the administration of all Quality Control Programs.
  • Assist in the inventory management and ordering of all PCR related supplies
  • Sample data collecting or accession if necessary
  • Compliance with all Federal and State regulations pertaining to Microbiology
  • Adherence to workload requirements.
  • Maintenance of accurate work records (i.e., Maintenance Logs, Temperature Logs, etc.)
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree in science or a related field plus one year clinical biological lab experience HIGHLY DESIRED
  • Knowledge of nucleic acid technology
  • Understanding of quality control/quality improvement programs
  • Familiar with pipette and knowledge of basic chemical calculation
  • PCR Extraction technique
  • Detail-oriented
  • Working knowledge and understanding of computers
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to be flexible and prioritize effectively

Education and Experience:

  • Must meet CLIA requirements for testing personnel – moderate to high complexity.
  • Required (one or both): Nationally recognized certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or a bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related biological science/clinical field.
  • Prefer one year experience working in a clinical laboratory setting – experience in Molecular (DNA based) analysis strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of PCR based procedures and PCR contamination control required.

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory quality and safety regulations.
  • Experience operating PCR instrumentation, including maintenance, troubleshooting, and data review.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
