Shift: 8-Hour Nights | 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM | Monday – Friday with Rotating Weekends

Guaranteed Hours: 40 per week

Start Date: October 27, 2025

End Date: January 24, 2026

Position Summary

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant handles laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure that all test requests are properly ordered, processed, and charged for inpatients, outpatients, and institutional accounts. This role involves specimen collection, non-technical specimen processing, preparation, and distribution in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment.

Pay Package (For Travelers/Stipend)

• Blended Hourly Pay Rate (W2): $28.00
• Weekly Pay (W2): $1,120.00
• Minimum Hourly W2 Pay (Taxable): $12.00
• Minimum Hourly Stipend (Non-Taxable): $16.00
• Minimum Weekly Taxable Pay: $480.00
• Weekly Non-Taxable Stipend: $640.00

Overtime:

• Daily OT after 24 hours (based on differential)
• Weekly OT after 40 hours (based on differential)

Responsibilities

• Handle specimen data collection systems, ensuring accurate ordering, cancellation, and charge entry for all patient accounts.
• Perform inpatient and outpatient specimen collection following established laboratory protocols.
• Conduct non-technical specimen processing, preparation, and distribution.
• Maintain specimen integrity during collection, transport, and processing.
• Collaborate with laboratory and clinical staff to ensure timely and accurate results.
• Uphold quality and safety standards in all laboratory operations.

Requirements

• Education:
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an approved phlebotomy training program OR
• Associate degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or a health-related specialty OR
• Two years of experience in specimen collection, processing, and requisitioning in a clinical lab or healthcare setting OR
• Completion of clinical training in a Northside Hospital Lab (as part of educational rotations).
• Valid, verifiable Phlebotomy Certification required.
• Experience:
• Minimum 2 years of experience in laboratory or phlebotomy specialty.
• Other Requirements:
• Must pass a Color-Acuity Screening Test.
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility (no local candidates).

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of medical laboratory terminology and computer systems.
• Strong communication and public relations skills.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Accurate specimen handling and clerical processing skills.
• Manual dexterity and visual acuity for venipuncture.

Schedule & Holiday Requirements

• Shift: Monday–Friday, 10:00 PM–6:30 AM
• Weekend Rotation: Required
• On-Call: None

Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work 2 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day) and 1 minor holiday (Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, or New Year's Eve).
