Medical Office Job Description

Position Summary

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides direct patient care and clinical support in a medical office setting under the supervision of a physician or Registered Nurse. This role requires strong clinical skills, professionalism, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced outpatient environment while delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including vital signs, patient intake, and clinical assessments within LVN scope of practice
• Administer medications and injections as ordered by the provider and in accordance with state regulations
• Perform clinical procedures such as EKGs, venipuncture, specimen collection, wound care, and dressing changes
• Assist providers with examinations, treatments, and minor procedures
• Prepare exam rooms, maintain supplies, and ensure infection control standards are met
• Accurately document patient information, treatments, and procedures in the electronic medical record (EMR)
• Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions
• Coordinate care with providers, front office staff, labs, pharmacies, and external facilities
• Respond to patient phone calls, messages, and prescription refill requests as directed
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and office policies
• Support quality improvement initiatives and office workflow efficiency

• Intravenous (IV) therapy skills including initiation, monitoring, maintenance, and discontinuation of IV lines (within state LVN scope of practice)

• Infection control and sterile technique
• Specimen handling and lab coordination

Qualifications

• Current Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in good standing (state-specific)
• Graduate of an accredited LVN program
• Minimum of 1 year experience in a medical office or outpatient setting preferred
• Proficiency with EMR systems preferred

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the office for extended periods
• Ability to lift and assist patients as needed
• Manual dexterity for clinical procedures and computer use

Schedule & Employment Status

• Full-time
