KFMB, the TEGNA-owned CBS affiliate in SAN DIEGO, CA, seeks a full-time Broadcast Engineer to join the Technology team. This position is responsible for the day-to-day hands-on maintenance of the station's technical equipment including traditional broadcast hardware and industry-specific software.
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, seamlessly balancing multiple ongoing projects with the immediate maintenance needs of a 24/7 operation. In this role, you'll combine technical expertise with strong communication skills to solve IT challenges while building trusted connections. Responsibilities:
• Support day-to-day operations of station including all daily news operations, equipment, and computer-based IT systems.
• Install and maintain broadcast and IT equipment at studio facilities, transmitter site, in remote broadcast vehicles, and at other remote locations.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues, making repairs or implementing workarounds as needed.
• Perform routine security updates and reboots of broadcast servers.
• Contribute to technical documentation that accurately represents installed equipment.
• Occasional field work on remote productions.
• Minor building-related maintenance tasks occasionally required.
Requirements:
• years experience in broadcast engineering or related.
• Strong organizational, communications, and time-management skills. Able to work efficiently without direct supervision.
• Ability to work well under pressure, take initiative, and work well with others.
• Solid understanding of current computer hardware, network technologies, and Microsoft's Active Directory environment.
• Ability to plan technical projects and clearly communicate the status of problems, provide updates to progress on projects, and offer solutions to technical issues.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Available on call.
