Position Overview
The Youth Activities Facilitator for the Teen After-School Program is responsible for planning and leading engaging, age-appropriate programs and activities that inspire personal growth, leadership, creativity, and positive decision-making among youth ages 13–18. This role combines mentorship, program coordination, and skill-based learning to empower teens to reach their full potential in a safe and supportive environment.
The ideal candidate is passionate about youth development, understands teen culture and challenges, and can build authentic connections that encourage participation, confidence, and accountability.
Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Design & Facilitation
- Develop and implement dynamic after-school activities tailored to teens, including leadership workshops, creative arts, entrepreneurship, STEM projects, life skills, and recreation.
- Facilitate discussions and group projects that encourage critical thinking, teamwork, and personal expression.
- Plan special events such as teen nights, career panels, community service projects, or talent showcases.
- Adapt activities to meet diverse interests and abilities, ensuring inclusivity and engagement.
Mentorship & Youth Development
- Build positive relationships with teens, serving as a role model and mentor.
- Guide students in areas such as communication, goal setting, conflict resolution, and self-esteem.
- Provide encouragement and support to help participants navigate academic, social, and emotional challenges.
- Create a space where teens feel heard, respected, and inspired to lead.
Academic & Career Support
- Provide light academic assistance, study sessions, or college/career readiness workshops.
- Facilitate sessions on time management, financial literacy, resume writing, and interview skills.
- Coordinate guest speakers, field trips, or volunteer opportunities that expose teens to new experiences and career paths.
Safety & Program Management
- Supervise youth during all program hours, maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.
- Enforce program guidelines and promote accountability through positive reinforcement.
- Maintain accurate attendance and incident reports.
- Manage supplies, activity materials, and cleanup for all sessions.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with the Program Coordinator and other staff to align activities with program goals.
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and school partners about teen progress and upcoming events.
- Participate in team meetings and staff training for ongoing development.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Youth Development, Education, Counseling, Recreation, or related field preferred but not required.
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience working with teenagers in after-school, mentorship, or community program settings a plus.
- MUST be able to pass a criminal background check.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong ability to connect with and motivate teens.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and facilitation skills.
- Creative program planning and problem-solving abilities.
- Conflict resolution and behavior management experience.
- Culturally competent and sensitive to the diverse needs of adolescents.
- Basic computer literacy and social media awareness (for outreach and engagement).
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).

Work Schedule & Compensation
- Type: Part-time (15–25 hours per week during the school year; additional hours for events).
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:30 PM – 6:30 PM (varies by location and program schedule).
- Compensation: Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience.
