Larksong Preschool is seeking a compassionate, loving, hard-working and strong communicator to join our team of preschool teachers. We are a small Waldorf-inspired early childhood program located in South Minneapolis, with two in-home mixed-age locations: LARKSONG PRESCHOOL and LARKSONG LITTLE HOUSE. We provide a mixed-age toddler/preschool program for children 2-5 years old, and a summer camp program for children ages 2-8.

Our mission: Young children are living in a world of wonder and imagination, and are continuously growing and learning through imitation, play, and sensory experiences. At Larksong, we have created an atmosphere that supports the young child's growth by providing a steady rhythm of daily artistic activities, imaginative play, circle time, stories and everyday practical work. We nurture their physical bodies through healthy movement and organic meals that we prepare together. We also support a healthy relationship to nature and the changing seasons through outdoor play, gardening, walks through the neighborhoods and nearby parks, and celebrating seasonal festivals as a community. Lastly, we aim to foster relationships based on kindness, love and respect for all people and creatures of the earth.

Teacher Assistant hours are 11:00-4:15 Monday – Wednensday and 9:00-4:30 Thursday and Friday, so about 31 hours per week. We mostly follow the Minneapolis Public school calendar for breaks and vacations. There will be 10-14 children per day. Waldorf experience is not required, but a willingness to learn Waldorf teaching methods is a must The position will begin ASAP.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Share in the care of the children under the Lead Teacher's direction.
  • Implement Waldorf curriculum as directed by the Lead Teacher which may include but is not limited to the following: prepare daily snack; maintain classroom cleanliness and order; participation in circle time, story time and outdoor activities daily.
  • Help children in using the bathroom and/or diaper changes throughout the day.
  • Participate in classroom set up, cleaning and preparation for start of school year and deep cleaning at end of school year.
  • Provide childcare during Parent Teacher Conferences (as needed).
  • Sub for lead teacher in his/her absence.
  • Clean classroom daily (wash dishes, sweep, vacuum, wipe down all surfaces, etc) and prep for the next day's morning activity; painting, drawing, etc.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Support and uphold Larksong Preschool's mission, vision and values.
  • Take an active interest in the philosophical tenets of Waldorf education and strive to use these ideals in working with the children.
  • Properly document any injury or incident and follow reporting protocol for communication.
  • Supervise children at all times
  • Give at least one month of notice if you are resigning
  • Take needed classes (per licensing regulations) prior to teaching (CPR, Safety, SUIDS/AHT)

Pay: $ $21.00 per hour
