Stratford Friends School is a leader and a pioneer in the education of children who learn differently. We are an independent coeducational day school serving students who are intelligent and imaginative but find it difficult to learn in a conventional classroom setting. Founded in 1976, the school enrolls 78 students in kindergarten through ninth grade. We are located in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

Job Description:

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides comprehensive speech, language, and communication services to neurodiverse students in the school setting. This position involves the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of students with speech and language disorders. The SLP collaborates with educators, parents, and other professionals to support student success across academic and social environments. AAC experience is required, and candidates must be confident with parent and teacher communication and collaboration.

Assessment and Diagnosis

  • Conduct speech and language assessments to identify communication disorders, including articulation, fluency, voice, language, and social communication disorders.
  • Administer standardized and informal assessments to evaluate students' speech and language skills.
  • Develop comprehensive reports on findings, including recommendations for intervention and support.

Individualized Treatment and Intervention

  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on assessment results.
  • Provide direct therapy services to students with speech and language needs in both individual and group settings.
  • Use evidence-based practices to address speech, language, and communication goals.
  • Modify and adapt therapy techniques to meet the unique needs of each student.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with teachers, education staff, and other school professionals to develop and implement strategies for supporting students with speech and language challenges in the classroom.
  • Participate in progress meetings, contributing input regarding speech and language goals and progress.
  • Provide consultation and training to staff and parents on strategies to support communication development, including AAC support (programming, implementation, education)
  • Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers about student progress and recommendations.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student evaluations, treatment plans, progress reports, and other required documentation.
  • Prepare reports for progress reviews, and other necessary school documentation.
  • Comply with all state and federal guidelines regarding documentation and confidentiality of student information.

Professional Development

  • Stay current with the latest research and best practices in the field of speech-language pathology.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities, workshops, and professional development activities.
  • Engage in peer collaboration and supervision as appropriate.
  • Monitor students at various points in the school day including recess, lunch, arrival, dismissal, and transitions between classes.
  • Provide extra support to students, as needed.
  • Assist teachers and licensed behavior specialist with parent-teacher's meetings.
  • Support the school's mission to provide a safe and caring learning environment that celebrates students' strengths, builds self-esteem, and develops self-advocacy.
  • Contribute positively to the overall learning environment in the school.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of academic, extra-curricular and personal development opportunities.
  • Maintain understanding of educational trends through participation in professional associations.

General Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the guidelines in the Employee Handbook, including punctuality, courtesy, and professional conduct.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Valid state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) or eligibility to obtain licensure.
  • Certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • As required by Pennsylvania law, all employees who will work in direct contact with children are required to provide Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Child Abuse and FBI Criminal History background clearances
  • All documentation required to meet proof of eligibility to work in the United States as detailed on the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification
  • Minimum one-year experience working with neurodiverse learners in a school setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of current therapeutic techniques, speech-language assessments, and interventions.
  • Organized and thoughtful planner.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators, parents, and students.
  • Familiarity with IEPs and special education laws.
