CADEkids teaches and mentors K-8th grade students to strive to become their best selves. CADEkids' mission is to promote children's potential for growth through comprehensive, school- and community-based youth development and support programs that are begun at an early age, and are designed to encourage positive choices while reducing high-risk behaviors.

Established in 1987, CADEkids is a Pennsylvania-registered charitable organization with a track record of direct community support. We provide Prevention Education, Student Assistance Program (SAP) Services, and Out of School Time Enrichment with a small but mighty staff. Together we reach thousands of Philadelphia students each year.

CADEkids Prevention Education programs address Substance Mis-use, Violence/ Bullying, Problem Gaming/ Gambling, and Problematic Internet Media Use. Prevention Specialists deliver weekly evidence-based curriculum to whole classes and sometimes small groups of students for cycles of 10-16 weeks with the classroom teacher or other school personnel present.

Prevention Specialist Role (Full-time or Part-Time):

Prevention Specialist is a 10-month position (August 25, 2025-June 21, 2026) delivering substance abuse and violence or problem gambling prevention education in elementary schools, middle schools, and other community venues. Prevention Specialists are responsible for:

  • Building a familiarity with the provided prevention curriculum to prepare for highly engaging lessons with students at multiple schools (4-5 schools for full-time)

  • Arriving on-time and prepared at schools to teach students in 4-6 classes per day

  • delivering curricula to whole classrooms and sometimes small groups (lessons include on goal setting, decision making, peer pressure refusal skills, and more)

  • Collaborating with school personnel to develop a schedule and select programming that best meets the needs of their students

  • conducting community workshops for parents and others, and professional development training for teachers and administrators (as appropriate)

  • completing required reporting data on a timely basis

  • administering pre- and post-cycle surveys at acceptable participation levels

  • meeting submission deadlines

Prevention Specialists are required to comply with the terms of the Personnel Policy Handbook, demonstrate a set number of direct service hours in the field each academic year, and assist CADEkids in meeting requirements for Pennsylvania prevention specialist certification.

A Prevention Specialist is responsible for achieving CADEkids' goals of promoting safe and respectful school environments and meeting the needs of his/her assigned schools. To this end, a Prevention Specialist should seek to become an integral part of each school's team, and perform reasonable duties as requested by school and CADEkids' administrative staff.

Background Checks:

Prevention Specialists work in schools and must complete FBI, PA Criminal Record, and PA Child Abuse History clearance background checks. High School Graduation or GED with 2 years of experience in youth programing (required), a Bachelor's Degree (preferred).

Valuable experience includes: group leadership or instruction in affective education, community-based youth programming, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, or direct service in a clinical capacity. People with lived experience in Philadelphia and Philadelphia Public Schools are encouraged to apply.

Time to learn and train on the curriculum, practice key facilitation skills, and shadowing of experienced prevention specialists are all part of the on-boarding process for someone new to this role. Regular supervision with the program manager will be in place to help you learn, grow and thrive in this role. A desire to learn and improve to best serve our students is key to success on the CADEkids team.

Skills: Growth Mindset, Familiarity with Evidence-based Curriculum (bonus)

Ability to use MS Word, MS Excel, Google Suite, and Learn online platforms for reporting and lesson enhancement.

Fulltime (5 Days a week 8:30-4pm): $38,000-$42,000

4 days a week (must include Friday): $30,400- $33,600

Sign-on bonus paid over 1st year; performance bonus available after first year
