• A strong background in nonprofit accounting and bookkeeping, with demonstrated ability to manage restricted and unrestricted funds.
• Hands-on experience managing grant reporting and compliance, including multi-funder allocations.
• Proven track record of successfully supporting independent audits and implementing recommendations.
• Familiarity with the unique reporting, tax, and compliance needs of 501(c)(3) organizations.
• A collaborative, detail-oriented professional who thrives in mission-driven environments and enjoys working with small teams.

Location: Virtual within person working opportunity in Tampa, FL. The Perpetual team is distributed geographically, so the role also requires working with a virtual team.

Type of Position: This is a part-time hours per week) contract role for candidates authorized to work in the US.

Compensation: $65-$75 per hour based on experience

Perpetual's primary focus is working with four US cities to stand up city-wide reusable foodware systems, as a starting point for reusable packaging. Additionally, the Perpetual team is recognized internationally for its unique technical and operational reuse expertise, and provides expert advisory services to organizations/projects such as the United Nations Environment Programme, Plastic Reboot (a Global Environment Facility project), CalRecycle, and Circular Action Alliance.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven Fractional Director of Finance to oversee and strengthen the financial operations of our nonprofit. This remote, part-time role is ideal for a finance professional who brings both strategic insight and hands-on execution. The Fractional Director of Finance will ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and transparency while helping the organization maximize resources to achieve its mission.

Key Responsibilities

• Budget Development and Strategic Support

• Working with the Co-Executive Directors, develop the annual budget.

• Prepare monthly forecasts and advise on financial strategy.
• Support the development of financial policies, internal controls, and risk management.

• Provide financial insights to guide resource allocation and long-term planning.

• Grant & Program Accounting

• Track and allocate grant funding across programs in compliance with funder requirements.

• Prepare financial reports for grantors and support proposal budgets.

• Compliance & Audits

• Lead preparation for annual independent audits and act as primary liaison with auditors.

• Lead the process to prepare and file IRS Form 990.

• Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial best practices and applicable laws.

• Financial Management & Reporting

• Conduct monthly bookkeeping tasks such as categorization of expenses and revenue,

• Oversee preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).

• Provide clear financial reports for the Executive Director and Board.

• Payroll, Payables, and Receivables

• Manage payroll processing and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable to ensure timely payments and collections.
• Maintain vendor and contractor records and issue 1099s as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree a plus
• At least 8 years work experience building skills relevant to this position
• Proven experience in nonprofit financial management, preferably at a senior finance level.
• Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting, GAAP, and fund accounting.
• Experience preparing and filing Form 990, managing audits, and overseeing grant allocations.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Excel.
• Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-finance staff and board members.
• CPA or CMA designation preferred but not required.
