SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Workers' Compensation (WC) Claims Manager, the (WC) Supervisor has responsibility for the daily operations and activities of all (WC) claims staff assigned to their work unit. The position requires timely review and approval of the work product performed by their assigned personnel. In addition, the (WC) Supervisor shall provide ongoing leadership in company protocol, procedures, and standards of performance, necessary for quality (WC) claims management and reserving practices. The (WC) Supervisor is responsible for reviewing and enforcing compliance with the State of California Labor Code as well as performance of duties described below. The supervisor is responsible for making sure all client service is delivered at company standard.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Makes hiring and termination recommendations. Handles regular personnel performance reviews (including but not limited to the Employee 90 day review, Performance Conversations, and necessary write ups for substandard performance) within their unit. Creates and delivers performance documentation as necessary.

· Provides regular and ongoing training, development, mentoring, coaching, counseling and supervision to all (WC) claims staff within their work unit. Ultimately responsible for the improved performance of their direct reports.

· Responsible for the morale and retention of their direct reports.

· In partnership with the WC Manager, assists in building an effective client relationship that insures client retention.

· Models team work and professional behavior

· Within 7 days of receipt reviews the initial work up of new losses; including review and approval of reserves; compensability recommendations; first payments; notices; also provides input and recommendations for ongoing claims management.

· Maintains ongoing diaries, for regular file reviews and provides input on delayed claims; high profile and complex claims; subrogation claims; excess / reinsurance and fraud claims. The claim reviews and diaries are to be set within compliance with mandated time frames; if none than no infrequently than every 120 days using internal audit reports and dual claim diaries.

· Utilizes all management tools to insure units fulfill compliance of procedures and performance expectations.

· Reviews and approves all denials and penalty payments as well as completing penalty forms and informing management of such.

· Deals closely with clients, approves claims reviews as well attends (WC) claims review meetings, reports, responding to special needs, resolving issues), on a scheduled basis. Responsible for positive client relations, by delivering client service at company expectations, and ensuring direct reports do the same.

· Monitors team's performance to ensure compliance with Statutory Regulations and Client protocols are followed.

· Attend outside meetings/presentations as needed.

· Must maintain designation or licensing standards; including all necessary on-going training.

· Deliver internal and external training on technical topics.

· Other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • California Self Insurance Certificate
  • 5-20 years of work experience in the insurance or self-insured industry, specializing in workers' compensation.

2+ years of Supervisory and/or Team Lead experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100, $115,000.00 per year
