Position Overview

Masterbilt Inc., a premier aerospace and precision manufacturing company, is seeking a highly skilled, hands-on CNC Programmer – Mill for our South Bend, IN facility.

The ideal candidate is an expert in CNC milling operations and programming, with the ability to create, optimize, and troubleshoot complex CNC programs used in high-tolerance aerospace machining. This role is critical in supporting our engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure parts meet stringent customer and AS9100 requirements.

This is a technical programming position requiring deep machining knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to support operators with setup guidance and machining best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Programming & Technical Expertise

  • Create, edit, verify, and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam (or equivalent CAM software) for 3-, 4-, and 5-axis milling equipment.
  • Review CAD models, blueprints, and engineering documents to ensure accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Generate setup sheets, tool lists, and other documentation required for production.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality to ensure programs meet dimensional and aerospace standards.
  • Troubleshoot and correct NC code issues, tool path errors, and machining challenges.

Machining & Setup Support

  • Support machinists with setups, tooling choices, fixturing, and program prove-outs.
  • Validate first-piece inspections and ensure part stability during production runs.
  • Recommend improvements in tooling, workholding, and machining strategies to reduce cycle time and increase consistency.
  • Provide hands-on support during new job launches and complex projects.

Process Improvement & Quality

  • Continuously improve machining processes for efficiency, repeatability, and part quality.
  • Support corrective actions, root-cause analysis, and improvements related to machining nonconformance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for repeat jobs and revision control.
  • Ensure compliance with Masterbilt's AS9100 quality management system and customer requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of CNC milling and programming experience (aerospace or high-tolerance machining preferred).
  • Strong proficiency with Mastercam or similar CAM software.
  • Deep understanding of G-code, tooling, work offsets, cutting parameters, and fixturing.
  • Ability to interpret complex blueprints and GD&T.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 / ISO 9001 aerospace machining requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with machinists, engineering, and quality teams.
  • Experience with Haas, Okuma, Mazak, or similar CNC milling machinery preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time, first-shift role at our South Bend, IN facility.
  • Primarily shop-floor environment with regular collaboration between operations, engineering, and quality.
  • Occasional overtime or additional hours may be required based on production needs.
