Description The Environmental Data & Governance Initiative (EDGI) is a research collaborative with a mission to advance the environmental right to know. We are a horizontally organized community of caring and committed members. Our team is made up of mostly volunteers, from multiple academic institutions and non-profit organizations. EDGI focuses on issues of environmental justice, data justice, information accessibility, and corporate and government accountability.
The Environmental Data Analyst will be responsible for environmental, climate, greenhouse gas, and sociodemographic data archiving, sharing, user tool(s) development, analysis, writing, and education in partial fulfillment of a project to "Disrupting Deregulatory Efforts: Safeguarding, Analyzing, and Sharing the Value of US Climate Policies, Data, and Information."
Working in and with EDGI's Environmental Enforcement Watch (EEW) team, the Data Analyst will identify and analyze data, and develop tools and user interfaces to support the public's understanding ofUS policies relating to climate change, greenhouse gases, and the environmental right to know. The role includes supporting the development of a publicly accessible data archive, data science tooling with a user-friendly interface, open source software repositories, refined civic engagement guides, at least two reports and one policy brief, and multiple webinars and workshops that engage diverse communities of practice. The Data Analyst will regularly attend weekly Climate Data Project and Environmental Enforcement Watch meetings, and work closely with the EEW Coordinator, the Community Engagement and Government Information Specialist, and the other members of the Climate Data Project. including.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with EDGI, EEW, and the Climate Data Project team to translate climate data and research into accessible reporting
- Perform environmental and social data analysis
- Develop UI / UX designs for user-friendly data visualizations or tools
- Implement visualizations / tools for EDGI website
- Co-lead educational webinars/workshops to engage diverse communities of practice
- Co-author scientific reports and blogs related to climate data
Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with others
- Experience volunteering with EDGI
- Quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Investigate and analyze the inner workings of federal environmental policy through agency staff interviews, as well as data and documentary collection and analysis;
- Monitor and analyze changes to web-based information about the climate and environment provided by the federal government;
- Develop new ways of making federal environmental data more accessible to the public;
- Imagine, conceptualize, and move toward environmental data justice;
- Advocate for improved federal data and information governance policies and practices;
- Prototype new organizational structures and practices for distributed, collective, effective work rooted in justice.
