They are a highly efficient and effective team and are committed to providing high quality, high volume spay & neuter services for all cats - owned, community and shelter

Compensation: $65 to $85 per hour depending on experience

Benefits: PTO accrual

Schedule: Surgeries are scheduled Monday-Thursday, and you will be needed from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm each day (approximate and depending on volume and case complexity).

Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced part-time veterinarian to perform high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter surgeries only for shelter cats, community cats, and owned pets. No on-call, weekends, evenings, or diagnostic work required.

Ancillary Duties: General shelter medical care (including intake exams and recommendations for outside care and diagnostics) may be needed if the medical director is not on-site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform HQHVSN for cats, completing 20 to 30 surgeries per day
  • Conduct brief pre-op assessments to determine whether the animal is an acceptable candidate for anesthesia and surgery
  • Ensure biosecurity and aseptic protocols
  • Manage intraoperative decision-making and complications as needed in a calm, authoritative manner
  • Provide clear postoperative instructions and medical record documentation
  • Adhere to clinic SOPs, controlled substance regulations, and HQHVSN best practices
  • Collaborate with clinic leadership and Medical Director to optimize surgical flow, patient safety, and efficiency
  • Maintain a professional, safety-first, fear-free handling approach

Preferred Experience:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in HQHVSN; comfort with up to 30 surgeries per day
  • Demonstrated proficiency, or willingness to achieve proficiency, in the following: mass removal, amputations, enucleation, sophisticated wound care, and tissue handling
  • Ability to complete a high surgical volume with consistent quality

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD)
  • Active North Carolina veterinary license (or ability to obtain prior to start)
  • Proficiency in current HQHVSN standards
  • Clear, concise communication and strong teamwork skills

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Exposure to typical clinical risks: anesthetic gases, sharps, disinfectants/chemicals, zoonotic diseases, and high-noise environments
  • Fine motor skills and excellent hand-eye coordination required
  • Ability to remain calm and decisive in a fast-paced surgical setting

Schedule:

  • Flexible; you choose available days.
  • Clinic days are Monday through Thursday; no remote work, on-call, or after-hours duties.
