We have partnered with a global retailer and wholesaler in the New York City, NY area to provide them with a Technical Designer. Please review the description below and let us know if you are interested.
Prioritized Must Have Skills for the Technical Designer:
1. Must have at least 5 years' experience pattern making, fit and technical design in wovens and knits2. Experience working within a brand environment and translating its essence into technical design elements is a key requirement.
3. Hands-on experience in technical design, pattern making, fit technology, and specification.
4. Expert knowledge of pattern making, grading, and garment construction for woven and knit apparel.
5. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, PLM systems, and technical sketching.
Responsibilities of the Technical Designer:
- Work with the Technical Design Manager and internal teams to develop design solutions through the construction phase.
- Fit Consistency Mastery: You will lead the effort to establish and maintain consistent fit standards for the brand, ensuring that every product aligns with our vision and customer expectations.
- Specs and Grading Expertise: Your role involves creating and upholding comprehensive specs and grading rules for all product categories within our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
- Factory Collaboration and Training: Collaborating closely with factories and team members, you will impart your fit DNA expertise, ensuring that everyone understands and adheres to our brand's fit standards.
- Product Insight: Possessing a keen eye for product aesthetics, fit and shapes, you will contribute valuable insights to enhance product design and execution.
- Responsible for organizing fit samples by marking all incoming samples as received, communicating with production on fit priority and setting up fit rack accordingly
- Track and measure fit samples prior to fittings and participating in fit sessions by taking clear fit notes.
- Minimize fit rounds while maintaining optimum fit and quality
- Executes fit comments in a timely manner to ensure the fit process stays in line with production and action timelines while partnering with the Product Development team on lead time priorities, where applicable.
Requirements of the Technical Designer:
- Effectively working with team members is a prerequisite.
- Experience working within a brand environment and translating its essence into technical design elements is a key requirement.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in technical design, demonstrating your mastery of pattern making, fit technology, and specification.
- Ability to articulate technical needs effectively to overseas partners is vital in maintaining seamless collaboration.
- Expert knowledge of pattern making, grading, and garment construction for woven and knit apparel.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, PLM systems, and technical sketching.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable juggling multiple timelines.

- Freelance/Contract opportunity for fulltime after 90 days and salary increase
- In office role.
