We are seeking a forward-thinking Senior Automation Engineer to lead the advancement of automation systems within a high-volume distribution environment. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep expertise in material handling technologies and a passion for driving operational excellence through innovative engineering solutions.

As a strategic member of the engineering and operations leadership team, you will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and supporting automated systems that enhance reliability, throughput, and performance across a complex logistics network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of automated systems including conveyors, sortation equipment, control systems, and messaging frameworks.
  • Integrate Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to ensure seamless operations across platforms such as Fortna, Bastion, Geek+, AutoStore, and Dematic.
  • Act as a technical expert in troubleshooting and failure analysis, driving root cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Monitor system performance using diagnostic tools and data analytics to proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical diagnostics on automation equipment to maintain optimal performance.
  • Apply hands-on experience with Cognex and Keyence vision systems to improve system accuracy and throughput.
  • Partner with operations and business leaders to align technology initiatives with strategic goals.
  • Collaborate across departments and locations to support project execution and ongoing system enhancements.
  • Conduct in-house testing and emulation of MHE systems to ensure high standards of functionality and reliability.
  • Identify and implement improvements that enhance system performance and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of engineering activities, production support, and system configurations.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to leadership on project status, system health, and improvement opportunities.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in MHE systems troubleshooting, design, and operational integration.
  • Strong background in message integration and PLC programming.
  • Proven experience with WCS/WMS implementations and integrations.
  • Expertise in conveyor, sortation, and material handling technologies.
  • Proficiency in mechanical and electrical diagnostics.
  • Experience with Cognex and Keyence vision systems.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Geek+, Bastion, Fortna, Dematic, and HighJump is highly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is a plus.
