ASTAR, Inc. is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our growing team. The Payroll & Benefits Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the payroll systems run smoothly and employees are paid accurately and on time, managing all regulatory and legislative compliance procedures correctly, communicating and resolving any payroll and benefit related issues with employees, and supporting AP/AR and HR as needed. Working in a fast-paced team environment, this role requires a self-motivated individual with a high degree of collaboration and innovation.

Responsibilities:

Payroll

  • Manage and ensure accurate processing of the bi-weekly payroll cycle.
  • Review field employee timesheets and confirm accuracy for payroll, while ensuring approval processes are followed and there is consistent and effective communication with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide reports on company earnings, taxes, deductions, non-taxable wages, and other payroll-related reports as needed.
  • Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information and interacting with HR.
  • Ensure the payroll database is set up and reflects the current employee base, including salaries, timesheets, benefits, retirement contributions, and other forms of compensation.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable while providing additional support services to HR.
  • Prepare year-end employee tax slips and forms and submit the required government filings to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to legal and ethical standards.
  • Other payroll duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Administer various employee benefits programs, such as group health, flexible spending accounts, dental and vision, accident and disability, life insurance, 401(k), and wellness benefits.
  • Conduct benefits orientations and explain the benefits self-enrollment system.
  • Ensure benefits changes are entered appropriately in the payroll system for payroll deduction.
  • Assist employees with health, dental, life, and other related benefit claims.
  • Verify the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims, and costs.
  • Resolve administrative problems with the carrier representatives.
  • Administer COBRA.
  • Prepare and set up meetings designed to help employees obtain information and understand company benefits and other related incentive programs. Ensure distribution of required employee notices.
  • Maintain and update company organizational charts, phone directory, and other requested reports as needed.
  • Assist HR in completing benefits reporting requirements.
  • Other HR duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in payroll administration, HR, benefits, or a similar role.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extremely high attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects or tasks at one time and effectively multi-task.
  • Thorough research and problem-solving skills.
  • Meet strict deadlines while maintaining compliance and regulatory standards.
  • Capable of providing a balanced and common-sense approach to routine and complex issues.

Preferences:

  • Experience managing and processing multi-state payroll strongly preferred.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now or similar payroll processing systems preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $47, $52,000.00 per year
