Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under the direction of leadership, is accountable for provision of competent direct patient care based on established standards. Contributes to unit activities and supports enhancement of the care delivery system at the unit level. Supports peers in the delivery of patient care services and assumes an expanded role which may include charge nurse, preceptor, and committee member responsibilities.

FT (36 or 40) position available, D/E; staggered 8/10/12 hr shifts available The pediatric Imaging and Sedation Nurse is integral to a specialized nursing unit, providing comprehensive care to pediatric patients undergoing imaging studies, Interventional Radiology procedures, as well as other medical procedures that require sedation. This role encompasses patient safety assurance and collaboration with attending physicians during various procedures, including burn care, lumbar punctures, and bone marrow aspirations. Key responsibilities involve assessing and preparing patients for sedation, reviewing medical histories, educating patients and families about procedures and potential risks, and continuously monitoring vital signs and sedation responses. Must be flexible and able to adapt/prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Strong assessment, excellent communication, and good IV skills are essential. Adherence to hospital policies, infection control standards, and patient safety protocols is essential, along with active participation in ongoing education, training, and quality improvement initiatives related to pediatric sedation and imaging. BSN preferred, PALS, ACLS within in 6 months, and pediatric nursing experience preferred. Essential skills include strong assessment and critical thinking abilities, proficiency in IV insertion and medication administration, and excellent communication and teamwork capabilities. The Unit operates M-F with on-call and Holiday Requirements per unit policy/need.
