Position:   Arts Appreciation Teacher

About the Role:

The Arts Appreciation Teacher will play a pivotal role in fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of arts among students. This position involves creating engaging lesson plans that not only educate but also inspire creativity and critical thinking. The teacher will facilitate discussions, performances, and projects that allow students to explore various art forms and their cultural significance. By integrating hands-on activities and multimedia resources, the teacher will enhance students' learning experiences and encourage them to express their artistic talents. Ultimately, the goal is to cultivate a lifelong appreciation for the arts in students, equipping them with the skills to analyze and enjoy artistic expressions throughout their lives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Fine Arts, or a related field OR Associate degree with strong experience teaching music, fine arts or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Music Education, Fine Arts, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching music and arts appreciation at the K-12 level.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum that covers various aspects of arts appreciation.
  • Conduct engaging lessons that incorporate listening, analysis, and creative expression in music and visual arts.
  • Organize and lead extracurricular activities such as art shows, music performances, and field trips to cultural institutions.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support their artistic development.
  • Collaborate with other educators and community members to promote arts education and integrate it into the broader school curriculum.

Skills:

The required skills for this position include strong communication and presentation abilities, which are essential for delivering engaging lessons and facilitating discussions. Creativity is crucial, as the teacher will need to design innovative lesson plans that capture students' interest and encourage artistic exploration. Organizational skills will be utilized to manage classroom activities, plan events, and assess student progress effectively. Additionally, a solid understanding of various art forms and their historical contexts will enhance the teacher's ability to provide rich, informative content. Preferred skills, such as proficiency in multiple musical instruments or art techniques, will further enrich the learning environment and provide students with diverse opportunities for expression.

WORKING SCHEDULE: Exempt, salaried, full-time professional position scheduled to meet the needs of Thomas Academy/BGHNC.
