Job Title: Courier

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of this role is to carry out the tasks of safely transporting medical specimens, samples, and supplies between healthcare facilities and laboratories. Courier's must ensure timely delivery/pick up to all clinical sites and the laboratory. Skills necessary for this position include a basic understanding of city layout, driving proficiency, and accurate record keeping in both analog and digital formats.

Key Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Adherence to established procedures for specimen collection, packaging, and labeling to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  2. Following strict protocols and regulations regarding specimen handling, patient privacy (HIPAA), and safety.

  3. Provide support to fellow couriers and various departments within the company.

  4. Ensuring accurate documentation and record-keeping of deliveries and pickups.

  5. Ensuring timely delivery to meet critical deadlines for diagnostic testing and patient care.

  6. Monitor and report cleanliness and organization of company vehicles, including regular inspections and maintenance checks.

  7. Flexibility to work various shifts, overtime, and provide coverage in extenuating circumstances.

  8. Assist with other duties and responsibilities as needed to support the operations of the courier service.

Supervised by: Courier Manager

Scheduled Shifts:

Full time shift start times ranging from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM

Part time shift start time at 4:00 PM

Requirements:

  1. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

  2. Previous experience in a courier or delivery role preferred.

  3. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.

  4. Excellent time management and organizational skills.

  5. Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  6. Ability to lift and carry heavy loads and navigate stairs and uneven terrain.

Physical Requirements

  1. Driving to and from PRL to clients' offices

a. Requires driving up to 6 hours a day

b. Requires sitting up to 6 hours a day

c. Requires grasping/squeezing/reaching/twisting/bending/wrist flexion/extension

  1. Picking up specimens from lockboxes or within the clinic

a. Requires chest to knee level reaching, grasping, pulling, and lifting of items

b. Requires walking/standing/bending

  1. Loading supplies into courier car at PRL

a. Requires grasping/squeezing/reaching/twisting/bending/wrist flexion/extension

b. Requires reaching/grasping/pulling/lifting of items up to 40 lbs.

  1. Transporting specimens/supplies from clinic to courier car

a. Requires walking/standing

b. Requires squeezing/twisting/bending/wrist flexion/extension

c. Requires reaching/grasping/pulling/lifting of items up to 40 lbs.

  1. Removing slide folders with slides from waist- and knee-level bins and place into carrying bag

a. Requires reaching, grasping, pulling, and lifting of items

b. Requires walking

  1. Courier slides from PRL to pathologists' offices at various points in the city

a. Requires twisting/reaching/lifting/grasping/squeezing/flexion/extension

Working Conditions

  1. Vehicle for 80% of shift

  2. Office for 15% of shift

  3. Outside for 5% of shift

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour
