The Position:

Lowell Community Health Center opened a new pharmacy and seeking motivated pharmacy technicians to support our values and mission, while providing a positive work environment to support professional growth and development. The Registered Pharmacy Technician shall report to the pharmacy manager and assist the pharmacist in operating the pharmacy by performing daily functions such as prescription processing, filling and ordering.

Essential Functions:

  • Accepts and processes new and refill prescriptions from patients or their representatives
  • Collects demographic information needed to maintain up-to-date patient profiles including allergies
  • Reviews patient profiles for completeness
  • Files and retrieves pharmacy records
  • Handles telephone communication for non-discretionary tasks including but not limited to:
  • Prescription refill requests
  • Questions concerning pharmacy operations, such as hours and directions and pricing
  • Ordering of medication or supplies
  • Orders, receives and verifies invoices for medication, devices and supplies as outlines in pharmacy policy and procedures. Stocks shelves, rotating stock, with received order. Reports any overages, missing items or mispicks to the wholesaler for credit or replacement.
  • Assist pharmacist with inventory management, including, but not limited to:
  • Removing outdated or recalled stock and isolating from inventory
  • Deducting outdated or recalled stock from pharmacy system inventory
  • Prepare stock for return to wholesaler, manufacturer or reverse distributor.
  • Uses the pharmacy system to enter patient, prescription and insurance information to process a prescription. Choose correct language according to patient's preference.
  • Uses pharmacy system to bill, clear rejections and rebill prescriptions to third party to ensure payment to the pharmacy.
  • Prevents duplicate discounts by using the correct inventory and insurance when process prescriptions.
  • Prepares processed prescriptions for dispensing by the pharmacist including but not limited to:
  • Retrieving medication from stock or robot, dispensing the correct quantity of liquid, pills/capsules, etc. for the prescription being processed
  • Labeling the prescription per protocol
  • Placing finished prescription order in bin in chronological order according to pick up time, being mindful of the bin color and meaning
  • Retrieves, reverses and/or rebills any Returns to Stock medications not picked up by the patient after 10 business days.
  • Operates Point of Sale system or other payment systems to process patient payments and purchases.
  • Assist the pharmacist in maintaining a clean, orderly and smoothly operating pharmacy
  • Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed.

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must hold a valid Massachusetts state issued pharmacy technician license. License must be in good standing
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time
  • Use hands and arms to reach and grab
  • Occasionally stoop, crouch or kneel
  • Lift and move 10 or more pounds
  • Ability to focus and adjust vision
  • Work in a moderately loud environment
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment
  • Bilingual preferred
  • CPR/BLS Required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Some lifting pushing or pulling required up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to perform CPR (chest compressions).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Frequent contact with patients, families, visitors, nurses and other department staff. Occasional requests to change work areas to cover another priority area to meet patient needs. Occasional stress and pressure caused by multiple simultaneous demands. May be exposed to various body fluids and/or infectious diseases. Universal precautions and techniques are included in orientation and the availability of protective wear is supported and encouraged when the employee is at risk for exposure.
