Job Description:
L3Harris Integrated Mission Systems is seeking an experienced Software Engineer with a strong background in the RUST Programming Language and proven experience developing systems with RUST to guide the next generation of mission-critical systems. Responsibilities include guiding adoption of RUST throughout the embedded development, managing integration or conversion of legacy software to RUST, providing best practices and architectural guidance for memory-safe usage of RUST, developing best practices and implementation guidance, and the translation of requirements into working and maintainable solutions for our C5 and Cyber Solution Centers. The selected candidate will apply technical proficiency across various stages of our SDLC, gather requirements and work closely with stakeholders to prioritize and scope tasks. The selected candidate will be working as a key team member on a Scrum team and will be instrumental in setting our direction and strategy for product and infrastructure development.
Essential Functions:
Support the engineering team members in embedded software application development specifically with RUSTLead the adoption and deployment of RUST and associated techniques, idioms, design patterns, and tooling throughout multiple product linesApply computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis concepts and principles in the development of software for the target hardwareWork closely with cross functional members of the engineering organization to develop and evaluate interfaces between hardware and software, and operational performance requirements and design of the overall systemSupport and participate in all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, hardware-software integration, and formal testInvestigate root causes of complex issues, and implement solutions, working independently or with a multi-discipline teamDevelop software test plans and procedures, and other relevant technical documentationUtilize modeling tools and equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests, prototype, and evaluate resultsParticipate in peer reviews, identify, track and repair defectsUtilize a variety of software languages (primarily RUST, C/C++, and Python developing code for embedded real time operating systems (VxWorks, Linux, Integrity))Qualifications:
U.S. citizenship with a Active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearanceBachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.3+ years of experience developing RUST software for production systems with a deep understanding of the languageExperience with C\C++ developmentExcellent oral and written communication skillsPreferred Additional Skills:
Experience converting C\C++ code to RUSTExperience developing RUST software for embedded systemsExperience with development of embedded systemsObject-oriented design and implementation experience, with exposure to software modeling and UML tools such as IBM Rhapsody or MagicDraw/CameoExperience developing device drivers and Board Support Packages for real-time embedded systemsExperience with Information Assurance and/or cryptographyExperience with NSA Type 1 certification or other SW certification such as DO-178In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $155,000 - $245,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. L3Harris also offers a variety of benefits, including relocation stipend, 401(k), EAP, and company-paid holidays. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
