Position Summary:

The Assistant Nurse Manager ensures the delivery of high-quality clinical services in alignment with hospital standards and regulatory requirements. This role oversees all operational aspects of the assigned department, including strategic goal setting, budgeting, staffing, and performance improvement. The manager maintains 24-hour accountability for nursing care, collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes, and upholds evidence-based standards of care. Acting as a leader and mentor, the manager promotes professional development, employee engagement, and adherence to hospital policies and customer service standards. Additionally, this position supports hospital initiatives, fosters a culture of safety and continuous improvement, and participates in community service efforts.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:

  • Understands and adheres to the Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
  • Develops and submits departmental goals and objectives that are aligned with the Nursing and hospital strategic plans as required by the Division Administrator.
  • Conducts Interviews, hires, evaluates, counsels and terminates employees as per hospital policy.
  • Schedules staff based on budgeted staffing plan and department needs.
  • Updates FTE component of staffing budgets on a continuous basis
  • Develops and submits operating and capital budgets and reports variances as required to the Division Administrator.
  • Assures compliance with governmental, state regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Assures completion of staff orientation, annual and ongoing competency and education requirements.
  • Provides house supervision as required by the Division of Nursing.
  • Attends and participates in educational programs or activities to maintain current level of knowledge or expertise to manage department.
  • Periodically provides direct patient care as needed.
  • Participates and assures department involvement in ongoing Performance Improvement initiatives to support quality metrics such as core measures and patient satisfaction as required.
  • Develops evidence based standards of care, policies and procedures, etc. as needed for area of responsibility.
  • Ensures service excellence initiatives and achieves organizational goals for patient satisfaction.
  • Attends all meetings as required.
  • Conducts staff meetings monthly to update staff and/or address department issues and records meeting minutes for all staff.
  • Utilizes multiple methodologies to communicate information.
  • Adheres to safety standards for employees and patients.
  • Participates in committees, task forces, projects, etc. as required.
  • Submits all other work reports as required/requested by the Division Administrator.
  • Integrates patient rights and nursing ethics into work practice
  • Adheres to the tenets of the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals
  • Delegates activities to staff according to the tenets of the NYS Nurse Practice Act
  • Adheres to the ANA Code of Nursing Ethics
  • Adheres to all standards of care, policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, behavioral standards, completion of annual mandatory education and completion of annual health assessment
  • Creates and maintains a culture of shared governance
  • Works with the Magnet program director to align initiatives with the strategic plan and critical components of a Magnet Organization.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements :

  • Current NY State License
  • BSN required
  • BLS certification (through American Heart Association) required
  • ACLS certification (through American Heart Association) preferred
  • Demonstrates a basic knowledge of management skills
  • Previous management/leadership experience preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant acute care experience
  • Ability to function as a staff RN
  • Demonstrates excellence in clinical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $129, $168,000.00 per year
