Reports to: Program Manager, Education & Curriculum Development
Category: Full-time. Salary Range: $25/hr (35 hours a week). Location: ARCK Creativity Lab, Fenway (Boston)
About ARCK & the Creativity Lab
ARCK (a 501(c)(3) non-profit) equips youth to lead with creativity, character, and purpose. Our new Creativity Lab is a youth hub where art meets impact, design, and systems thinking. It's a hands-on maker space and studio environment that blends visual arts with prototyping, digital fabrication, storytelling, and civic innovation—guiding teens along Creative Pathways to college, careers, and community impact.
Role Snapshot
You'll help design, pilot, and teach ARCK's Creative Pathways curriculum. Fall 2025-Jan 2026 focuses on curriculum development and program planning; teaching and mentoring begin February 2026. This role mixes instruction, making, youth mentorship, and program operations in an active lab environment.
Curriculum & Lesson Design
- Develop project-based units for the Creativity Lab aligned to ARCK's studios and to UDL/SEL best practices.
- Build hands-on lessons that integrate art + design thinking + civic engagement (e.g., community challenges, product/prototype showcases).
Maker Space Instruction & Safety
- Teach safe use of tools (e.g., hand tools, basic power tools) and, as applicable, entry-level digital fabrication (e.g., 3D printing, laser cutting) and light electronics/microcontrollers.
- Establish and enforce lab safety protocols, tool checkouts, material logs, and workspace norms; maintain an organized, inclusive, and accessible lab.
Prototyping & Creative Tech
- Guide students through the design cycle (ideate ? prototype ? test ? iterate ? present).
- Introduce foundational skills such as basic CAD (optional), simple circuits, digital media, or fabrication file prep—no advanced expertise required, just comfort learning and teaching basics.
Teaching & Mentorship
- Beginning February 2026, co-facilitate a 12-week teen after-school program centered on creativity, collaboration, and civic projects.
- Mentor a cohort of 5-10 Boston-area teens; differentiate learning and support varied skill levels and identities.
- Serve as a substitute for ARCK in-school programming, if needed.
Community & Events
- Create and facilitate creative activities at ARCKFest and community/school events.
- Support outreach to schools/partners; help communicate program outcomes and student benefits.
Program Operations
- Meet regularly with the Program Manager; support admin tasks (contracts, supplies, vendor coordination).
- Document student work, gather data, and track learning outcomes.
- Participate in team meetings; contribute to ongoing R&D and program improvement.
Must-Have
- Bachelor's in Education or related field (or strong non-traditional/lived experience).
- 3–5 years working with youth (grades 8-12 preferred).
- Experience creating and implementing project-based curriculum.
- Comfort teaching hands-on making and facilitating open-ended creative projects.
- Strong organization, communication, and reliable in-person presence in Fenway.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace.
Nice-to-Have (Maker & Pathways)
- Experience in maker spaces: tool safety, basic fabrication workflows, simple electronics, or beginner CAD/file prep.
- Multi-disciplinary creative teaching (any 2–3: visual arts, creative writing, movement, drama, music, media arts).
- Familiarity with college/career readiness, youth mentorship, and under-resourced school contexts.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
