Position Summary:
WENDT is seeking an experienced Fluid Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for the conception, design, documentation, and implementation of fluid systems —including hydraulic power units, lubrication systems, water systems, and fluid conditioning units. Acting as a technical bridge between Sales and our customers, you will oversee projects from initial estimates and conceptualization through manufacturing and commissioning. Your expertise will ensure all designs meet customer specifications, safety standards, and company policies, while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across departments.
Duties
- Collaborate with sales, suppliers and customers to understand fluid system requirements and application needs
- Generate conceptual designs and estimates including schematics, layout concepts, and cost projections
- Design, develop, and document hydraulic and fluid systems using AutoCAD, Inventor, Excel and Word
- Review and interpret specifications and technical documents to ensure value to the end user, project feasibility and compliance
- Produce bills of materials (BOMs), schematics, general arrangement drawings, and other required documentation
- Lead and/or support the fabrication, testing, and troubleshooting of hydraulic systems on the shop floor
- Oversee system testing, validation, and commissioning, both in-house and at customer sites as needed
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and timely project execution
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Project Management, Manufacturing, Service, and Customer Support
- Develop common and standard parts, systems, panels along with library for commonality to minimize risk and maximize profitability
- Participate in product lifecycle management and continuous improvement efforts
- Provide technical support and training to internal stakeholders and customers
- Efficiently manage multiple active projects at varying stages of progress
- Development of quotes for new sales and service opportunities
- Review and release documentation in vault and to Project Managers
- Up to 30% travel to customer sites, both domestic and internationally
- Perform other duties as requested by your supervisor
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor's degree or years of engineering experience equivalent, required
· Bachelor's degree in mechanical or civil engineering preferred
· At least 5 years of engineering experience, required
· Hydraulic systems engineering experience, required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
- Proficient in AutoCAD 2D and Autodesk Inventor 3D
- Strong understanding of hydraulic schematics, fluid circuit design, and component specification
- Familiarity with low, medium, and high-pressure hydraulic systems (5000 psi high)
- Knowledge of fabrication methods, including weldments and structural framing
- Basic electrical knowledge (especially related to hydraulic control systems)
- Understanding of industry standards (e.g., Tier IV, ABS, NFPA, CE, ATEX, OSHA, ASTM)
- Be flexible and available to interact with customers, suppliers, colleagues, and staff as required
- Strong desire to deepen expertise in fluid power systems and technologies
- Highly self-motivated, team-oriented, and adaptable to changing priorities
- Ability to balance multiple projects with competing deadlines
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
