Position: GIS Developer (Hybrid) – SOAZ-Req #8790 (AZDWR - IT)

The GIS Developer will join the ITD-GIS team under the GIS Supervisor, working closely with Application Development and other agency teams. The role focuses on designing, developing, enhancing, and maintaining high-impact GIS web and desktop applications that support statewide water resource management.

A minimum of two onsite days per week is required. Remote work within Arizona may be allowed based on performance and business needs.

Job Duties

Develop and deploy production GIS web applications following ADWR standards.

Gather business requirements and build custom GIS tools, workflows, and database queries.

Maintain and update existing applications, tools, and workflows.

Resolve technical issues and service requests promptly.

Create and maintain technical documentation and diagrams.

Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Provide technical presentations and share best practices with GIS teams.

Required Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge Of

Esri web development tools: ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript, ArcGIS REST services, Esri Jimu library, Experience Builder Developer Edition.

Python, ArcPy, ArcGIS Pro (analysis, editing, cartography).

Version control (Git), SDLC, DevOps workflows.

Database systems (Oracle, SQL Server) and SQL queries.

Docker/containerization basics.

Skills In

Web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSX, TypeScript, React, SQL).

API development.

Python & ArcPy scripting.

Debugging and troubleshooting web applications.

Team collaboration, communication, customer service.

Time management and problem solving.

Required Experience

  • 3–5 years web development in an Esri environment
  • 3–5 years Python & ArcPy scripting
  • 3–5 years JavaScript development

Preferred

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, GIS, or related field
