Description Waggoner Engineering is seeking a Transportation Engineering Director for our Jackson, MS office to serve as the technical subject matter expert for roadway design, mentor for Waggoner's design staff, and senior project manager for roadway project delivery. Your Primary Responsibilities will include Projects will primarily be located throughout the State of Mississippi.  There is opportunity to work with Waggoner's other 18 offices located throughout the Gulf Coast states.  Occasional travel to project sites and/or other Waggoner offices can be expected.  This is not a field office position.
 
Summary/Objective:
To provide quality planning, design and technical assistance to management and other members of design team in delivering projects within budgetary and time constraints.

The blend of experience required to fulfill this position includes roadway design, project management, and business development. We are seeking a skilled Senior level Project Manager with a track record of success in roadway design, project and team management, and serving as a client liaison as it relates to business development.

Essential Functions:

    1. Performs engineering analysis and design (2D and 3D) for roadways, intersections, and related infrastructure, including new construction and rehabilitation. 
    2. Understands and applies principles of roadway engineering in accordance with MDOT and local municipality design guidelines.
    3. Understands and applies principles of traffic signalization to design of roadway and intersection improvements. 
    4. Performs analysis and design of stormwater management facilities for roadway drainage. 
    5. Prepares construction plans, specifications, and contract documents for contracting and bidding of construction projects. 
    6. Performs construction phase engineering, including periodic on-site reviews, in collaboration with Construction Services team. 
    7. Understands typical roadway constructability areas of focus, including multi-phased construction and traffic sequencing and the associated impacts to other roadway design components.
    8. Maintains and documents written and verbal communications with clients throughout the development and completion of a project.
    9. Conducts project status review with project manager and team members, checking accuracy of work completed, and monitors timeliness of project completion. 
    10. Prepares engineering studies and reports. 
    11. Provides technical guidance and training to members of the project team. 
    12. Prepares project design using sound engineering principles, engineering software and tools. 

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position will supervise roadway project managers and design staff.  Candidates will collaborate with engineering and CADD staff for plan production and report directly to the company-wide Transportation Director.

Work Environment

This leadership position operates in a professional office environment.  The candidate will work hand-in-hand with management, project managers and production staff to deliver roadway plans and specifications. 

What you'll need
  • Required Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required. 
    • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Mississippi, or PE in other states with the ability to be licensed in Mississippi.
  • Required Experience:
    • A minimum of 10 years of roadway and related design and management experience as a licensed professional engineer in responsible charge is required. 
    • Project design and plan delivery experience for MDOT projects is required.  Similar experience with local municipalities or other Gulf Coast state DOTs will be considered.
    • Project management and staff/resource management experience is required.
    • Knowledge and practical application of roadway engineering technical resources such as AASHTO Green Book, Roadway Design Guide, MUTCD, and MDOT design manuals and EDSMs are required.
    • Design experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation are required.  Experience with OpenRoads or Inroads software is a plus.
    • Advanced knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
    • Experience with ProjectWise and Deltek software packages a plus.
    • Superior communication skills and in-depth knowledge of company products and operations.
