Overview

Under the direction of the Facility Director, the Custodian is responsible for the general cleanliness, safety, and appearance of the facility.

Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be require and assigned. 

  • Ensures the Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned areas and equipment. Performs general cleaning duties such as disinfecting and sanitizing, sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, vacuuming, and general cleaning.
  • Restocks toilet paper, hand towels, soap, and trash bags; locks and unlocks doors.
  • Utilizes various machines and equipment in the delivery of service, such as vacuum cleaner, floor buffer, carpet shampooer.
  • Assists in opening of the facility.
  • Be alert to risk management and respond/repair to safety issues immediately. 
  • Communicates repair needs out of the scope of their ability to the Facility Director. 
  • Works as a member of the staff team and interacts with members, guests and other community leaders in a positive manner.
  • Uphold YMCA policies and philosophy; use character development as a basis in working with members, participants, the public and staff. 
  • Have a complete knowledge of all emergency procedures.
  • Assist Facility Director as requested.

  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Position requires a person with a minimum of a high school diploma or GED; a minimum of two years in custodial services, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.
