Orthopedic Cast Technician Lead

The Lead Orthopaedic Cast Technician provides patient care in an acute care setting under the direct responsibility of a licensed physician or advanced practice provider. The technician participates in the care of patients in an acute care setting by: a. Fabricating, applying, maintaining, and removing casts, splints, Orthopaedic soft goods, and other musculoskeletal dressing and appliancesb. Measure and fit patients for braces and other orthopedic devicesc. Sets up balanced suspension and tractiond. Assist Orthopedic Surgeons in the reduction of fractures and licensed advanced practice providers in simple and complex procedurese. Instruct patient in proper care of cast and splints, including walking with casts and bootsf. Instructing patients with the use of crutches and DMEg. Change dressing and care for woundsh. Remove sutures, staples, etc.i. Order medical supplies and manage DME inventory, and maintain a clean and stocked fracture clinic supply room.j. EMR documentation of services performed with accurate charges enteredk. In-servicing and educating of staff in multiple departments on concepts of traction and splintingl. Perform other duties as requiredExcellent customer service skills and ability to communicate in a courteous, pleasant and professional manner with patients, the general public, staff members, outside agencies, and all other internal and external contacts. Possesses highly autonomous and self-directed work habits.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- The candidate should display initiative, can multitask, and be able to take on additional responsibilities.
- Proven ability to problem-solve and be a team player is essential.
- The candidate must possess at least one of the following education and requirements:
- Completion of an Orthopaedic Technologist certified school/program.
- Completion of a formal medical services training program of the U.S. Armed Forces with proof of a certificate upon discharge.
- Graduate of an approved course of study as a Medical Assistant.
- Graduate of an accredited EMT or paramedic program with proof of a valid state license.
- Certification in an Orthopaedic-related field (i.e., Athletic Trainer).
- Graduation from a formal 6-week Certified Nursing Assistant program
- Two years (as mentioned above) full-time experience in a hospital, healthcare setting, or physician's office.
Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:
Employees in this position: Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Basic Life Support (CPR) or CPR Skills checkoff is required or obtained within first month of employment. If currently possessing Licensure or Certification, the expectation would be to continue with this Licensure or Certification.
