Telecom Aerial Lineman

A Telecom Lineman is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground telecommunications lines. This includes working with fiber optic, coaxial, and copper cables to ensure uninterrupted communication services. The role requires working at heights, operating heavy equipment, and adhering to safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair aerial and underground telecom lines (fiber, coaxial, copper).
  • Use bucket trucks, ladders, and other tools to work on utility poles and underground vaults.
  • Operate and maintain specialized equipment such as cable reel trailers, line trucks, winches, and cable pullers.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA, local, state, and federal safety standards and regulations.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, work orders, and diagrams.
  • Perform site surveys to determine cable routing and equipment needs.
  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and ground crew for efficient project execution.
  • Document work performed and update service records and maps.
  • Respond to service outages and emergencies, including after-hours work when necessary.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certifications or vocational training preferred.
  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience as a lineman or in a related telecommunications role.
  • Proficiency in climbing poles, using safety harnesses, and operating aerial lift devices.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
  • Familiarity with fiber splicing, testing equipment (OTDR, TDR), and telecom infrastructure.
  • Valid driver's license; CDL preferred
