Position Summary

The Equipment Shop Technician III is responsible for diagnosing, inspecting, repairing, reconditioning, assembling, and performing preventive maintenance on diesel engines and construction equipment, including hydraulic and electrical systems. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, independent troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety, quality, and customer service. A minimum of five (5) years of experience working on heavy equipment or diesel applications is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, inspect, repair, recondition, assemble, and service equipment as assigned.
  • Perform diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and repairs to ensure equipment is safe and operational.
  • Inspect diesel engines and equipment hydraulic and electrical systems to determine repair or replacement needs.
  • Dismantle, reassemble, test, clean, and adjust repaired or replaced components.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, including inspection, cleaning, and lubrication of moving parts.
  • Operate vehicles and heavy equipment to support diagnostic and repair processes.
  • Utilize hand tools, pneumatic tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and hydraulic/electrical testing devices.
  • Use diagnostic software, reference manuals, schematics, and code books to support troubleshooting.
  • Accurately document machine information, repairs completed, parts used, and fluids on work orders.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly care for shop tools and equipment.
  • Maintain technical and product knowledge of all equipment sold within the dealership's area of responsibility.
  • Identify and communicate solutions for customer service opportunities.
  • Follow all safety rules, regulations, company policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain a professional image when interacting with customers and the community.
  • Participate in company-sponsored training and all required meetings, huddles, and communication efforts.
  • Maintain positive, professional working relationships with peers, management, and support teams.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned in a professional and efficient manner.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working on heavy equipment or diesel applications.
  • Strong mechanical skills with the ability to assemble and perform maintenance on equipment.
  • Experience with hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Excellent customer service, communication (oral and written), and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must have own trade-specific tools, including hand and pneumatic tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment repair manuals and schematics.
  • Ability to travel and work in the field as needed.
  • Valid CDL Class B license required (on-the-job training provided if needed).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Welding experience (electric and gas welders, soldering tools).
  • Industry certifications (a plus).

Working Environment

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with potential exposure to noise, dust, fumes, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and varying weather and temperature conditions.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing stairs/ladders, and reaching.
  • Occasional work on ladders, scaffolding, or elevated structures.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, and 10 lbs constantly.
  • Frequent operation of mobile equipment and vehicles.
  • Visual and hearing ability sufficient for a construction and shop environment.
